Forums - Sony Discussion - Will sony make the biggest turn around in gaming history?!?!?!

Or its their slow long term strategy, getting on its way.

Depends what is meant by turn around.
They could give PS3s away or charge £50/$100 for them and probably gain the number 1 position in world console sales but compared to Sony and their PS2 its in a pretty terrible position.

Even if the PS3 was to take the lead in sales the future, going from the dominant force in home consoles last generation to having it's arse kicked in such a comprehensive way by a company and a product such as the the Wii that was seen as having no chance against it has got to be a major embarrassment.

Sony have trid in so many ways to repackage and remarket the PS3 that I'm sure they never had to do with the PS2 and still despite the claims of 70% or 200%+ sales increase when a new cheaper model is introduced it still is no way near Wii sales in any region overall.

I myself as a Nintendo fan am amazed that almost a year down the line the PS3 has not picked up in sales to compete with the Wii and right now is 8millon + consoles behind.

6 months ago I thought the PS3 is bound to catch up to the Wii this year as the Playstation brand is such a strong selling point but here we are before Christmas and still the Wii is pulling even further ahead.

So I'm now thinking maybe in the middle of 2008 it will catch up but I don't think anyone really knows, not even Sony!

Either Nintendo are so forward thinking and clever they saw the huge market that was their for their DS and Wii or they are the luckiest company on the planet!....my guess is more 2nd option than 1st!

Either way, for Sony it has been a huge kick in the teeth and compared to their previous consoles has turned the PS3 into a disaster for them.

If anything it's Nintendo that has managed the biggest turn around after being so far behind in previous generations.

Sony catching back up to a company it used to trash is not really much of a combeback is it!

@NJ5

do you think 80GB will replace 60GB be4 xmas in EU....

OT:

Well I HOPE it does, as then we will have two Very well performing consoles (wii, Ps3)

which is healthy

Do you live in europe??  Because in the USA we already have two "VERY well performing consoles", the Wii and the 360.

Currently Playing:

PS4 - Killzone:SF and Assasins Creed 4

XBox One: BF4, CoD:Ghosts, Dead Rising 3, Forza 5

Changing channels with my voice: priceless!!!

Biggest turn around? it's called the Nintendo wii.

Year 1 is over. At this point momentum is stuck. Developers know which systems they will make games for. Customers know what games to expect from each console. Retailers know how much space to reserve for each console.

So no, there is no major comeback unless Sony completely changes their console right now.

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.

The PS3 launched on Nov 11, about 8 days away, so year 1 is not over. Also, they don't have to change the system, just figure out an engine to optimize the Cell ASAP.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Ah, the mainstream business press - masters of spin, dunces of context.

A turnaround implies that Sony is somehow headed off the Cliff of Doom. But as I've said over and over again... Sony is doing fine. The PS3 was never designed to simply replace the PS2, it was the high-end supplement. Add up total sales of the PS2 and PS3, and Sony has maintained their 40% world market share, in units of home consoles sold, over the past year. This holiday, PS2 sales will probably slide, but the PS3 is positioned nicely to pick up the slack.

@WEWdeadeye

yes I do..

but I'm talking on a worldwide basis..

right now the wii is 300K +

PS3/360 are below 200K

so we have only 1 well performing console....
