Forums - PC Discussion - 2 things that will keep pc gaming alive for many more years

all the pc needs to stay alive, in my oppinion, are two game genres, the mmo and the rts. The rts is a very unique pc experiance that is very hard to recreate on the consoles without heavy simplifying it. Halo wars was an amazing game, but was very simple, had few control optons or varied strategies. Games like starcraft 2 will keep gamers coming back to pc for years, if the online history of starcraft 1 is anything to go by, maybe we could see even another 12 years of starcraft 2! then theres the MMO, sooo many hotkeys, online content, mods and other internet realted stuff that the community never developes as well on the consoles. Games like aion, world of warcraft and warhammer online are great example of a pc experiance you just cant get on consoles.of course pc will still need other games! especially more exclusives, but i'm sure these will keep coming from the likes of valve and blizzard. PC gaming will NEVER die as long as it keeps offering unique gaming experiances, its not about the pcs graphx.

they also need Point and Click adventures, PC gaming would die for me without point and click adventures

At the name of YESHUA, EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth (Philippians 2:10)

I have the biggest Wishlist on VGchartz

well 16 bit gamer, we are currently getting loads, strongbad, sam & max, and recently monkey island, a return to grim fandango would be epic!

Shio..

Shio will single handly keep pc gaming alive.. even if that means he has to buy Star Craft 2 10 million times.. he will do it..

well not sure what this topic is for, there are a ton of great pc games coming out. and starcraft 2 for your rts. i'm sure many more.

and seems a new mmo comes out every week.

and we have great rpgs like dragon age, and the free mmo's like diablo 3.

just to name the huge game names. so many games come out for pc that don't get huge internet hype because everyone is still living in the year 2000 when it cost 2000+ for gaming computer and needed to be upgraded often. Now you can get for not much more than what you will pay for your new computer anyway, and each gen just swap in a new 100 graphcis card that is a year old and your set. and that year old card will be as good, most likely better than the consoles.

i just honestly can't see how people aren't pc gamers, it is the cheapest. of an extra 100$ more than what youw oudl have bought for your comptuer you can have a gaming rig that will always be backwards compatable, and upgrades to current gen for 100$ or less.

When I saw the topic I though: " Oh geez here we go: Look at Crysis". So thanks for not bringing up graphics, because I don't see the tail end of every console gen as a reason enough for the pc's existence.

@OP I guess you're right at the moment. I do however believe that both MMO and RTS can be pulled off 95% as well on console. If the Wii was more powerful and devs really tried then RTS would be almost just as good as on PC. MMO is also quite dependent on the mouse, but even on a controller it can be done well.

So imo you're right, but it *could* change. (I don't think it will though)

yeah, i think those genres are what makes PC as a platform so special. i remember playing soo many RTSs that i couldn't find any good ones i hadn't played at the time. and point&click are really fun on PC too but I have a Wii and i enjoy games like that on it.

currently im trying to find a copy of C&C:RA3 cuz RA2 was soo much fun! looked around but couldn't find :/ ill definitely look some more...

What needs to happen to revitalize PC gaming is for Linux to be fully supported by the industry, and for Open GL to be brought up and made as good as Direct X 10

i think mmo can make it on the console but rts is a different story. there have been some games in the rts genre that have been handled decently and halo wars was quite good but when it comes down to the extent of micro-management akin to most pc rts, the controller just cannot handle it.
