WoW is really fun. Good choice.

How much time do you think you probably ended up investing in it?

Playing WoW isn't an investment, it just ends up making you waste your life away.

And yes I do have lvl80 characters and I have wasted 1000s of hours!

Yeah, but what about all those cool, useful skills you learn like fishing, tailoring, alchemy, etc. that could come in handy in real life?  Oh, wait... you don't REALLY learn how to do those things...

how the hell does someone waste 700 hours on a piece of crap like Oblivion?! And without mods even!!!

lol

One man's meat is another man's poison.

Go ahead and name your favorite game and how much you've played it so I can say "how the heck does someone waste X hours on a piece of crap game like Y?"

But you're right about the no mods... it would have made the game more interesting.

wow... well you seem to love grinding, so I gess wow has everything for you.

And wow isn't such a bad choice... you have "sub" games such as capture the flag, capture the points... it's actually a pretty varied experience.

The only limit is that you need to lvl up your character for it but hey :p

(spent about 5000h on wow myself during the first 2 years.... kind of ODed on it though (luckly I didn't fail my classes and I'm still with my girlfriend so no damage done :p))

Zelda... about 1000h, but that was kind of my first game too so....

oh and I replied cause I didn't like oblivion too much either (the game corrupting on me after 15 hours didn't help either... but still I kind of forced myself).

Hmm WoW you say?

Well over 3500 hours for me across the span of 4-5 years. But I had a friend who just recently reached 10 000 achievement points (10 500 was max not long ago) who spent cca 9000 hours playing this game (day and night, everyday).

I've experienced everything this game had to offer and in the end, I was staying there just because of the great community (monthly pub meetings etc...), but since they've screwed the PVP which was my only interest in my last year or so of play, I left (and bought consoles :P).

MY HYPE LIST: 1) Gran Turismo 5; 2) Civilization V; 3) Starcraft II; 4) The Last Guardian; 5) Metal Gear Solid: Rising

After 700+ hours of 360 Oblivion, I finally broke down and got a subscription to WoW.   While it isn't a "I'm the focus of the game" sort of experience like single-player RPGs, WoW has a lot to offer, particularly for those who like lots o' ways to level up.  I'm currently focusing on solving quests (as most here probably know, the game is just mind-bogglingly large, so the number of available quests is like drinking from a fire-hose), but I'm also taking time to level up my fishing ability, my cooking ability, as well as first aid and skinning.

There are SO many minor skills that can be focused on--and add in all the guilds/campaigns/socialization/etc.--that I can imagine playing this for a very, very long time.  It's good to be back into PC (well, Mac, actually) gaming again.  I miss my 40" Sony LCD, but I can give it a little attention when I take breaks to watch Blu-Ray movies and House.

Wow is a pretty good game with tons of stuff to enjoy. I am sure you all ready know form just logging in that unless you enjoy some of the worst chat in any game I have ever played. You can turn off all the chat channels. Hope you can find some people to guild with that you enjoy playing with, it is the best part of the game. When you do get max level prepare to be called every name in the book no matter how good you are if you are low geared even though it is more than enough for most the instances you would be wanting to try at first.
