I jsut want to see what you guys think each of the next generation of consoles will be like. I'll post my thoughts later and I still have to compile them all but seriously what do you guys want from the Wii 2, Xbox 720, and the PS4.

Nintendo will innovate further. In terms of controls they'll be ahead. And maybe with all the money they make from Wii, they will put a hefty chipset in. Go Mario HD. That would be awesome. No Dvd playback or anything will keep their cost down again. bonus.

Microsoft:

- Built-in HD-DVD drive
- Larger hard-drive
- "Extensive wireless networking capability"
- 1080p playback

The article also claims Toshiba and Microsoft have explored the idea of including a dual HD TV tuner, electronic program guide capability and a newly-standardized mp3 player docking port.

If the article is accurate, the two companies have also kicked around the idea of creating an "open standard chassis system that allows an Xbox to be slotted into a HD TV screen over 40-inch. The open standard bays will allow hard drives to be upgraded and expanded similar to the way that users can upgrade the hard drive on a PC."

The article also mentions the possibility that Toshiba itself may market a version of the purported unit under its own brand name.

And Sony:

I'm sure they'll be similar to Microsoft again in terms of power and multimedia stuff.

In comparison to the XBox, the XBox 360's strategy has worked moderately well so I suspect Microsoft will produce a similar system in many ways. I expect they will be aiming for high performance but not at the expense of reliability and initial cost, they will continue to focus on services like XBox Live and video download, and they will try to beat (or match) the other consoles' release dates. Their controller will be similar to the Wiimote+ Nunchuck except with the nunchuck closely matching the functionality of the left half of the XBox 360 controller, and their Wiimote will have four thumb buttons and trigger buttons like the XBox 360 controller.

Nintendo will continue to improve the wiimote and nunchuck in ways I can not (really) predict, and will aim for a high-performance and low cost system; I expect the hardware will be halfway between the PS3/XBox 360 and the PS4/XBox 720.

Sony's strategy will closely match Microsoft's strategy except it will (most likely) release a year later ...

Basically, I expect the following:

XBox 720: Released Q2 2011, High Performance, Wiimote+Nunchuck $400
Wii 2: Released Q4 2011, Mid-Performance, Advanced Wiimote+Nunchuck
PS4: Released Q2 2012, High Performance, Wiimote+Nunchuck $400

I think that all the competitors will use a Wiimote style device, but concentrate on making cheap peripherals, so you could slot it into a classic joypad and things like rackets, bats, guns etc

My prediction: Nintendo's next system will be the only one with an original name.

lol, good point, N6 will not have the word Wii in it.....Msoft 3 will definately have x-box in the name, with some form of (number based) suffix....and the PS4.

@munkeh, it would be nice to get a classic type controller included in the box, It would have been silly with the Wii because developers are lazy enough as it is without giving them a fallback, but next gen they should be more tuned in to motion so the option for classic would be nice....As for fake plastic bats/raquettes/(trees ) no doubt they will come, but i for one could do without unless they actually add some function (buttons/pressure sensitive parts)

Whatever will happen i'm not sure, but Microsoft will be the first off the line, even if that means coming out with a half done system like the xbox360. Even if that means they go over the whole RRoD thing again.
