^ If I recall, there were advertisements playing for Wii Music on the TV reels at Best Buy. Basically 50+ TVs were broadcasting Wii Music ads to everyone in the store every few minutes. You can't really beat that.

I'm pretty sure I'm remembering correctly, but there's always a chance I could be wrong.  A google serach is turning up nothing on the matter.

Could be a regional thing.  I don't think i've ever even seen a Wii music commercial.

It was Nintendo's big holiday title.  You may not have seen any, but they were certainly there.  :P

And Nintendo sure knows how to do marketing.  Just look at the Wii ads since launch, or the Mario Kart ads.  The whole "playing together" vibe is something no other company has ever truly gotten across quite like Nintendo.

Edit:

@ Onyxmeth:  Target too, eh?

Around the Network

I see 2 things here, and I don't see what they have to do with each other at all. Can somebody connect them for me? If you can't use regular logic, can you make up some bullshit logic for me? I really can't see how they connect.

1) In Malstrom's world, Wii Music is the worst game that has ever been made by anybody, and it actually magically cost Nintendo millions or billions of dollars, cost them marketshare, hurt their image, and ruined their Christmas sales last year, and shows that Nintendo is giving up on all its good ideas to only follow this Wii Music direction and destroy itself.

2) In the real world, Miyamoto made Wii Sports, Nintendogs, and Wii Fit, and has New SMB Wii and Galaxy 2 coming up, and a new Zelda we know nothing about. He is currently mastering and revolutionizing several genres at once. He can make 1000 mistakes from here on out and still be the greatest developer alive.

I can't see both of these being true at once.

Also, I only read the OP. Should I bother reading the rest of this thread? Or even skimming it? I'm just too confused right now.

@The Ghost:
lol you always know just what to say.

Don't bother reading the rest of the thread unless you want to hear how almost everyone in the entire world disagrees with the bit about Miyamoto retiring, but some people think he makes some fine points about UGC.

Quem disse que a boca é tua?

Qual é, Dadinho...?

Dadinho é o caralho! Meu nome agora é Zé Pequeno!

Thanks Johann. I owe you one. Next time there's a thread this crazy and you miss it, I can skim it for you and give you a heads up.

Miyamoto should retire. Because if he doesn't he'll continue to make all the other developers in the world (bar a select few) look stupid.

Just the truth. I agree 100%.

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

Wii Music may be seen as a Miyamoto failure by some, but people are going to be far more tolerant of the mis-steps of a man who has contributed so much to gaming than a blogger with an overinflated idea of the importance of his own opinion who has contributed nothing to the industry.

I think this could hurt his credibility and popularity, you can't go dissing Shiggsy and expect to come off scot free.

Miyamoto is responsible for arguably the biggest success in gaming UGC, Miis.
Mario Paint, whilst not a huge seller, is still fondly remembered and still used today.

If UGC games are the next big thing then Miyamoto is probably going to be the one who nails it. Sales of 3M+ for a UGC experiment are nothing to scoff at.

The only UGC games I can see myself buying are a new Mario Paint with tons of Nintendo assets to play with or a level creator for 2D Mario.

Nov 2016 - NES outsells PS1 (JP)

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

This is an epic fail as an analysis. That guy should just shut his mouth and disappeard. Miyamoto is Nintendo's biggest asset and they should offer him a lifetime contract (and I am sure they have already done this).

Just for this generation, Wii fit is from Miyamoto's mind and this is probably the videogame that generated the most revenues and profit.

22 000 000 at 90$/€ = 2 billions

Miyamoto is at the beginning of Nintendo's biggest success. Almost all of his ideas turn into gold. Look at spherical fields and gravity which were the greatest addition to the gameplay of plateformers since 3D , and the origin of Mario Galaxy innovations and quality .

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
