Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why Nintendo doesn't deserve to be on top

Well, Nintendo fans, it has been a long time coming, but Nintendo is finally back on top.

You know, I am really glad Nintendo swept up this generation so quickly. Since the Wii was released, it has never been outsold (except for a few minor flukes aberrations i.e. Halo 3/MGS4 opening weeks, PS3 price drop). Now that's saying something, especially after the GameCube was so underappreciated.

But those days are over people, now that Nintendo is back on top, they can work on building up their brand name, and lead these Wii users into the next next generation on the right foot: with the purchase of a new Nintendo console.

Now that that is out of the way, I am going to tell you WHY they DONT deserve it.

It is quite simple. Nintendo pretty much started gaming. Without Nintendo, who knows where we will be? Would any other company have stepped up to save video games from the devestating crash of 1983? Probably, it was an empty market with a lot of customers, and competition only a few years before showed 3 or 4 consoles out at any one time.

What about PlayStation? Where would PlayStation be if it weren't for Nintendo? I think we all know the answer to this one, but let me clarify for those who aren't in the know. Kutaragi developed what became the playstation in secret. It was a side project for which Kutaragi was earning much criticism since Sony thought gaming was pedestrian. It's very possible that Kutaragi "engineered" the "betrayal" by Nintendo, since there weren't any formal agreements between the two companies. The playstation may very well have been created regardless, because Kutaragi was very interested in the gaming business, having developed the technology behind playstation in 1984. Ken also was the man who convinced Sony to return fire at Nintendo, because he egged on the board and doesn't afraid of anything.

Reasons why Nintendo DOESN'T deserve first place

  • Nintendo has focused almost exclusively on new gamers, young and old.
  • Nintendo sells pure game machines without forcing expensive nongaming stuff on you like wiisports.
  • Nintendo keeps development costs at a reasonable level and makes around 100$ pure profit on every wii sold, which it uses to fund the production of more Mii games.
  • Nintendo's first party games pushed hardware sales to an unprecedented rate, and then caused the first drop in YoY sales in the past 4 years.
  • Nintendo has the greatest customer service only because of the fact that you could have bought 2.3 wiis at wholesale.
  • Nintendo makes the most durable consoles. It is insanely dustproof. I tried to slowly strangle my wii for a year before I finally had some nice people take it away. It's so annoying when a console can't take a hint.
  • Nintendo hasn't come out with a high budget original game since the gamecube. What happened? NES and SNES introduced so many awesome characters and franchises, and now that's all gone. It would be as if Disney had Mickey playing the lead in "Pirates of the Caribbean", Goofy costarring with Belle as the titular "Beast" in "Beauty and the", and Donald as the "Lion King".
  • "Nintendo's  official seal of quality" is now just "Nintendo official seal"
  • Nintendo has released 2 wii fits and 3 wii sports entries and barely 5 classic franchise entries, Super mario galaxy, punch out wii, zelda,  super smash brothers brawl, and metroid prime 3.
  • Lack of interest in multiplayer. Seriously, what gives?
  • Apple form factor. By far the worst trend in electronics is the use of a white minimal design for casing.
  • Nintendo seriously underestimated how well the console would do among the expanded audience. Generally, selling a console for profit is done to ensure that costs are maintained and recoverable should the system see hard times. Nintendo expected hard times, hence why they made 70-100$ on the wii in America at launch. Instead, they could have upped the GPU and processor for 20-30$ more and made the best system of all time. One that could rival the graphic quality of the 360 or ps3. Of course, Nintendo isn't in the business of making the best home gaming console of all time, business is about money.

hope you enjoyed my tongue in cheek analysis of the undercarriage of Nintendo

EDIT 2: the wii is a toy

0$ is too much

Only reason I don't like Nintendo as much this gen is they didn't put much into graphics or online which are 2 things I love about PS3/360. I know they went for a more fun, family friendly console. But like you said they could have put a bit more money into graphics even get it up to 720p and it would have been amazing.

Edit: Also I wish it had a DVD player in it. I doubt it would cost that much to do.

^not just amazing, but probably the best system of all time, for all time.

You, sir, are sad and pathetic. The other thread was just a bunch of Nintendo fans showing their love for the console. They weren't harming anyone.

You HAD to take that and twist it into this mess of Nintendo-hate, and to top it off, post it in the Nintendo forums to make sure it would enrage everyone.

Where else would I post it? Huh?
Stop twisting my thread into a mess of hate.
