Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sony "pleading" with Third-party Devs?

@Girl Gamer Elite

Are you saying that the PS3 is a doomed system? Hanging in there implies that they will survive a little longer, but will fail in the end. Wow harsh criticism indeed. While I can see how you reached your conclusion. I think the system could be utterly dead, and Sony would still drag it around on a leash. I don't think they are just going to drop the console in something like three months. That would be heinous even for Sony.

I meant in terms of sustained sales, not the system being doomed. If this SKU didn't come along, the PS3 would fall back into its slow and dissapointing sales, the SKU will allow it to keep up the pace and continue onward.

The entire problem with PS3 development is it costs so much money and man power. Often to get just the same results you get on 360. Anyone remember the same on N64?

No, not really. :)

Look at GTA4. The real reason we all know it's put back is because of PS3. If it were 360 game alone it would be out this year.

Yes, but I'd like to see the graphics difference. Wasn't it with XBOX that they were having trouble fitting the game on DVD?

OPM: On PS3 you've got a guarantee that every machine is going to have a hard-drive and, with Blu-ray, you've got plenty of storage, whereas on Xbox 360 there's no guarantee of a hard-drive and you're working with the DVD format. Does that create limitations?

Houser: Yep.

Both consoles have their problems, they're not both perfect.

You won't see a graphics difference in GTA IV. Rockstar already said the game would be identical on both systems, save for the DLC on the 360. Do some damn research.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

I cannot figure out why people are having a difficult time with this story.

Sony has a machine that is harder to develop for and is selling more slowly that what others are offering.

Of course Sony is having to "plead" with third-party developers. (Plead being a play-on-words here of course). Also, as has been stated, Sony needs third-party developers. Its three recent first-party titles all have issues (poor quality of Lair, shortness of Heavenly Sword, patches/mutli-player only nature of on Warhark) which have limited their sales.

Just remember, before the Wii was released, Nintendo had to "plead" with third-party developmers because no one wanted to do games for "the next Gamecube." And I am sure that Microsoft has had to "plead" with third-party developers just to get them to do games for the system.

It is all part of the business.

Since the success of Wii is now evident to every1, Nntendo are not pleading at all. Developers are jumping at it.

Same for 360. The devs are happy to produce for it due to good sales.

The PS3 though is struggling which is why Sony are on their knees to them. Many devs are reluctant to spend their time with it so readily.

Nintendo is (probably) still in contact with these third party publishers but their motivation is quite a bit different today as it was 12 months ago. Realistically speaking, Nintendo is getting a very good number of games from most of the major third parties in the world the problem is they're not that high of quality or important.

When Nintendo is approaching Square-Enix they are probably no longer asking for Square-Enix to produce 'A' game for the Wii, they're probably asking for Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy.

Soriku and Kingdom Hearts III. Hahahahahaha!

Never gives up the fight.

Don't worry, Soriku, I believe it's coming to Wii too. Nintendo is the Disney of the videogame world. There's no chance this title even fits in with XBox 360's audience. See Viva Piñata for details.

Animation's Disney to Videogaming's Disney. Disney to Disney. Simon to Simon. It can't HELP but to come over to the "waggle" saddle.

If you need more spiritual encouragement here's an interesting excerpt from Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Nintendo

In 1959, Nintendo struck a deal with Disney to have them allow Nintendo to use Disney's characters on Nintendo's playing cards. Previously, Western playing cards were regarded as something similar to hanafuda and mah jong: a device for gambling. By tying playing cards to Disney and selling books explaining the different games one could play with the cards, Nintendo could sell the product to Japanese households. The tie-in was a success and the company sold at least 600,000 card packs in a single year. Due to this success, in 1962, Yamauchi took Nintendo public, listing the company in Osaka Stock Exchange Second division.

Man, we need a Mario smiley on this board.

Words from the Official VGChartz Idiot

WE ARE THE NATION...OF DOMINATION!

I thought Nintendo had a contract with Disney currently that all Disney games would be on a Nintendo console. Though this obviously doesn't apply to Kingdom Hearts as we already know there will be Kingdom Hearts on non-Nintendo consoles.

This is probably true. Personally, I do think dev kits will become available and PS3 development will be made easier, but I think Sony has definately made mistakes in trying to make PS3 dev too complicated. I really don't know if the Cell was necessary.
