Forums - Nintendo Discussion - 67% of Japanese Wii owners haven't used their system "of late"?

Maybe because Japanese persons don't have many female friends to play with?

Edit:  I want to say that like many on this forum already stated that people play a lot with their friends on the Wii and if I see my Japanese friends then I see people who are quite shy, lonely types I have that idea of Japanese people in general.

Those guys at Famitsu have been pro Sony from the past, just in case no one hasn't noticed before, so no wonder why they feel like to bash at the WII.

And perhaps Famitsu should look at the release list of the PS3 in Japan, which is less half the size comparing to the list of the WII. With perhaps only 1 or 2 games which might boost hardware sales. If WII is bad news, then how bad news is the PS3?

Ohh come on, you act like the wii is perfect and nothing can go wrong for it.  The console has its strengths and weakness you might as well accept it.  Not every one will love it no matter what.

im sure the same statistic could be thrown up for any console, I bought a PS2 early on and due to its lack of software i hardly touched it in between finishing ICO and the launch of MGS2.

I also bought my DS with Warioware and again, once i completed that i didnt touch the machine for a good length of time.

Another example would be the PSP, bought it, played Hotshots gold and lumines, but in this case i never picked it up again.

I would like to know the meaning of 'of late' the size of the sample and everything else before I give this any credence.

Very interesting statistic if true.

I heard the stat comes from the Everybody Votes Channel.

That's bull, as I check the Japanese Everybody Votes Channel everyday and there hasn't been a question like that at all.

@Mars, do you hear me saying that the WII is perfect? Don't put words in my mouth of which I haven't said.  Famitsu has always been known to have a sort of hate towards Nintendo from the past and has cooled down somewhat since the DS, but its generally known their love for Sony remain the biggest. Therefore I don't like it that these kind of people spreading things around which are full of nonense, same when it would concern Playstation anyhow.

With such loose data it is impossible to tell. We do not know about other consoles to know if this is common or not. There is no comparison to other time periods.

Most important, we know nothing about methodology. Sample size, questions asked, time period, region.

How the question was asked matter a lot.

1)Have you played your Nintendo Wii recently?
Yes or No answer recently is subjective

2)What was the last time you played Wii?
can be answered in days or weeks

3)How many hours did you spend playing VG last week?
numbers

4)same with question as 3, with Wii
numbers

5)Chose time you played Wii this week:
a) 10+ b)7-10 c)4-7 d)1-4 e)less than 1

6)What was the console you played the most last week?
5 options

7)What would you say about your video game activity this week
a)non stop b)constant c)average d)weak e)none

8)On a scale of 1 to 10 rate your VG activity last week:
numbers

I could go on forever. The way you ask the question matters a lot in statistics.

When a product is sold as the console for casuals, it's not really surprising that people use it casually. Products don't have to be used every day for them to be successful. That's only really a benefit if your product is actually consumed when used.

What matters is whether the purchase is made and enjoyed, not whether the purchaser spends 2 hours or 20 hours a week enjoying his/her purchase.

Actually, this tends to be the case when a console needs decent software attach rates to offset the losses that the console is being sold at.

In the case of the Wii, even if the consumer purchased the console and never bought a single game for it, it still generates a tidy profit for Nintendo; by that token it can be considered a success - even if it serves the consumer as nothing more than a doorstop.

I give you the post of the month award, a jar of cookies and a comemorative Wii shaped U$ 250 paperweigh. That was just great man.

I wonder who the polling audience was too if it was from Famitsu readers of course thats the figure that came out their readership does seem like the type of gamer that spends huge amounts of time gaming and goes through a stack of games pretty quick I can see why they would be bored with it currently. That certainly doesn't prove a distaste of it though game droughts happen and most people just pick up their other console, pc, handheld or whatever till its over. I know their lists are usually pro Sony for most wanted games or whatever but in this case I don't believe that any biased slant is at play in this case most real gamers I know generally don't hate any console purchase they've ever made and usually find something they like about it even that casual feeding bastard the Wii(sarcasm before anyone gets mad). This statistic even amongst hardcore gamers is really quite useless I think.
