Forums - PC Discussion - Sony teams up with Google

To take on IE.

Good news for Chrome - a great way of pushing its market share. Potentially good for the PS3 too.

Google has signed a deal with Sony to incorporate its Chrome internet browser into the Japanese technology giant's personal computers.

This is the first such deal that Google has signed with a PC maker.

Google said it plans to tie up further deals as it looks to promote the browser it launched last year.

Chrome lags well behind Microsoft's market-leading Internet Explorer and Mozilla Foundation's Firefox browsers in market share.

Internet Explorer is used by more than two-thirds of all internet users, while Chrome is used by less than 3%, according to web firm Net Applications.

"User response to Google Chrome has been outstanding, and we're continuing to explore ways to make Chrome accessible to even more people," Google said.

Some Sony PCs are already running Chrome as a result of the deal.

Hmmm, I don't really care for Chrome, simply because it lacks the live bookmarks that Firefox has

Thats cool, but I don't think I'd ever use chrome. They should have teamed up with Mozilla lol.

This is good news for Google, but they really would need to partner with more PC manufacturers to up there market share significantly. I'll stick with Firefox myself.

Good for Sony because I'm sure they would be getting paid and its not like their customers can't just change it.

Firefox is king! I hope Chrome knocks IE out. IE is so lame...too many ads and it sucks. Also....Firefox Bookmarks > IE Bookmarks

I think its good for Firefox as well as Chrome as its amazing how many PC/laptop users have no idea there is an alternative to IE. It will open their eyes to choice a bit.

Meh, the browser ballot will already give people a choice of Chrome/Firefox/IE/Opera at first boot of Win7. If people won't try it then then this won't help.

Many people will suffer from the where's-the-blue-e issue. We're all computer-literate here, but a minority of computer users (especially those who buy prebuilts) think IE IS the internet.
