Forums - PC Discussion - Napoleon: Total War announced

It seems to be more than just an expansion pack, with 3 news campaigns, but here are the details from SEGA:

History is as yet unwritten.

Napoleon: Total War™ is the new chapter in the critically acclaimed Total War series and opens up a new narrative layer to the genre-defining franchise. From the early Italian campaign to the Battle of Waterloo, Napoleon covers two decades of relentless battles, a backdrop of a world in flames against which the story of an extraordinary military career unfolds.

Whether you play as the legendary General or against, the outcome of war can never be guaranteed. The course of history relies on your ability to lead your troops through the most intense battles as never seen before in a Total War game.

The genre-defining franchise brings Napoleon to life:
Napoleon: Total War defines a new standard within the genre with exciting characters and a cinematic narrative, mind-blowing battle sequences and an unrivalled mix of turn-based and real-time strategy.

Three new episodic campaigns:
Take command and lead your armies on land and sea over three campaigns: Italy, Egypt and Mastery of Europe. The seamless mix of objective-based missions and sandbox experience makes this the most complete Total War experience to date.

Cutting-edge multiplayer:
Napoleon features fully integrated multiplayer modes and a complete set of online functionalities: Steam achievements, gameplay bonuses, uniform editor and voice communications.

All new Napoleonic battles and units:
Advanced weaponry enables new tactical options and even more exciting real-time battles on an epic scale, while the highly detailed environments and improved battlefield buildings guarantee a realistic recreation of famous historical battles.

Nice. I figured Sega's RTS had to be a new Total War. I still need to get my hands on Empire.

I'm not a history or military buff at all. But will be too far ahead in the time period for a US Civil War expansion? I remember my teacher ranting that the Civil War was a huge and weird war that still fought like the traditional old wars but with differences like ironclads, rifles, artillery, etc.
========================
I wonder what's next O.o I can't really see a WWII or modern warfare Total War... going back to Shogun/Rome will be kinda disappointing... what if they do a Total War game that goes back to the traditional sword, spear, calvary, etc roots, but in a fantasy setting (but still has that realistic feeling).

Now is the time, they have fixed most of the bugs so it runs properly

US Civil War is another 45 years, but I think that is what is next. Even though there are in theory only 2 sides, they could have a British campaign, where we interveen, as that is what the South wanted.

Yeah, I'm not sure sure about Modern Total War, though that is what I want, I would love if they worked with Reliq, who did Company of Heroes so well.

I wouldn't mind a Rome II game, but I think Napoleon, then Civil War Total War will keep them going for another 2 years

Romance of the Three Kingdoms: Total War~!

Or they'll jump on the Spartan bandwagon, like everyone else did after 300. Rome II: Total War wouldn't surprise me at all.

The problem with going back to Rome is it removes the naval aspect, which although wasn't great, it would be even worse in Rome with even less effective weapons

awesome, have to get empire first though!

"They will know heghan belongs to the helghast"

"England expects that everyman will do his duty"

"we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender"

Would it be a terrible omission to leave them out after Empire? How fun are the naval battles?
