Forums - Sales Discussion - Sept. Wii software vs PS3 software

I bought a Wii and Wii play recently. I now have two games which I play (and Zelda 2: The Adventures of Link on VC. Get that game NOW!)

Regardless of how Wii sports and Wii play end up in your house, it's still software and it plays a major role in how many other games you get. That's why it should be either counted, or atleast factored in to it when looking at attatch rates.

And Gran Turismo, last warning man. Grow up or get out.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Except that that wasnt the point the guy from the first post was trying to make.

I am surprised that Leo-J didn't said ' What about the people who downloaded warhawk'?

I personally do not believe that Wii Sports should be included. I guess that Wii Play should be as it directly purchased (although I hope that nobody really bought it for the quality of the game :p).

The end result of the OP analysis stands. In September games on the Wii did not sell particularly well given its userbase, in comparison to the PS3. I guess that's pretty cool, I don't know why all the fans are getting their knickers in a knot over it though.

Some of you are being a bit harsh about this analysis, which appears fairly valid. Afterall, how many developers are looking at the sales of Wii Sports and Wii Play before making a decision about the validity of releasing a game on the Wii? I'm guessing none.

Wii Sports should not count, in the U.S. at least, and Wii Play is questionable at best. The Wii people are pretty hostile about stuff like this. Maybe you just should have compared Wii third party software.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Without going into details about how one did over the other while narrowing down the playing field for one competitor.

How many million+ sellers does Wii have?
8. 2 of which are third party.

How many million+ sellers does PS3 have?
2. 0 of which are third party.

4x the million sellers (3x if you remove the accursed two) and only 2.5x the userbase. I think the Wii is clearly the best software seller. Now if only 3rd parties would step up to plate and dish out software that actually compares to 1st party stuff.

Which has the most games available now?
Wii, but a lot.

Which has the most games coming out this fall?
Wii, buy a lot. I proved this in this thread.

Which is following the same pattern of all past gen leaders?
Wii.

I dont know why you guys fighting over this attachment rate thing and bash on the lower attachment rate system.

I think the original post picked an biased month, when high profile or high hyped title was released during sept for ps3 and the wii basically got nothing except carry over from last month metroid prime 3.

I dont know if attachment ratio is really that important to 3rd party developers, if you look at the 120mil user base from ps2, you'll be lucky if you get 2% attachment ratio on it. So whats the point getting on frenzy over the attachment ratio right now, when developer clearly will consider the user base first.

The lower your user base the higher risk developer have to take, and the higher the user base the lower risk. its simple logic.

at current user base for ps3 even if developer able to acheive a 15-20% attach ratio on their game dont look good, and its a huge risk hoping a game will have that kind of high attachment ration. As we saw from recent high profile game from ps3 failed to reach 500k mark, and thats like 10% attach ration from current user base. Now you see the huge risk developer have to take for making game on the ps3.

Yeah, i'm gonna go with the not counting bundled games is silly crowd.

Reason being. They are games. The average console owner, (All of the consoles) only buys, one game every couple months. The wii coming with a game likely convinces a lot of people to not buy an extra game.

Wii Play definitly should be counted considering you can get remotes without the game. Wii Play is pretty much the equivelent of 10 dollar Shovelwear.

Either way, how about you compare software come november? I have a feeling it'll be slightly different then this month, where as it's been noted the PS3 has actually had a number of big releases this month.

What has the Wii even had released this month in the US. Ninjabread man and...?

How does he do it? Once again superchunk FTW.

Anyways, why does the original OP compare Wii to PS3? The only valid comparison is between XBox3 and PS3. Wii is for a different crowd and there isn't any crossover between the casuals and the hardcore.
