I believe this is a failure for Nintendo....

Instead of Nintendo selling these consoles to every, single individual person, people are instead SHARING the console together, thus limiting their sales.

Now, if only MS realizes their potential, they can get more people to buy their console and since only one person plays per console, they can ramp up their revenue!

....or did I miss the point of the graph completely?

I'd say you did.

Niether Nintendo nor any other console manufacturer is trying to sell a console to every member of a household. That's what handhelds are for.

You're trying to sell a console to the household itself, and it's an advantage to have more people in that household interested in your console so that a single individual doesn't have to persuade the other household members to get your console. Having more people in a household interested in your console lowers the barrier to that household adopting your console, and also helps to sell more software to cater to those diverse tastes.

I'm sure that some households have multiple consoles of the same type, but they're far in the minority, and expanding your install base to more households would be more desirable than selling more to the same household.

Pakidan, your humour is wasted here.

I'm usually sharper than that. I blame an extremely boring work day.

'Tis alright...we all have our bad days...

I just kid =P

Explanation of sig:

I am a Pakistani.....my name is Dan....how hard is that? (Don't ask about the 101...apparantely there are more of me out there....)

This study was done in Japan. The average 360 owner in Japan is more of an Otaku, from what I've heard. They are like the hardcorest of the hardcore.

and likely own another console.

so are nintendo creating flaimbait for once? :p

Agree that Wii is party fun, but duh, that's what it's meant to be.

The 360 is a hardcore gamers console. You play it for the reasons that it has awesome hardcore games, not the Brady bunch party games.

What nintendo have pointed out is the same as me saying, a sports car is only used by x amount of people and only a few people drive them, but the people carrier is enjoyed by everyone! You can even fit 8 people into it! Wow wee!

Gimmicks are fun whilst they last. Trends have come and gone. Will the Wii just be another trend or will it be something more? I can't say, but the graph does show ninty pulled a dirty manouver on the 360 in a very silly graphy way proving nothing much :s

NPD stated that the 360 had the longest play time in 2008. The Wii came in second and the PS3 came dead (Even after the PS2) last for console use. Technically this news from Nintendo is irrelevant.

How does US statistical data make Japanese statistical data irrelevant?

Oh it was Japanese? I retract that then. Wii Wins!

Well, 360 owners need to play 8 times more just to tie console use. And we all know how busy japanise people are.

Thats not even what matters. The major problem is Japanese nationalism as to why the 360 doesn't sell more and isn't played enough on average. If they have a Japanese product which provides a similar experience to an outside competitor they mostly will refuse to purchase it. When he told me the statistics were exclusively to Japan then I halted my argument, because it's entirely stupid to argue the Wii's dominance.

are you trying to say 360 is not selling in japan because of nationalisam?

Sorry about the title of the thread (it was the title of the article) but the research indicates that there are less users on the 360 than on the Wii per household. What do you think of the research? Is it biased? Does it amount to anything relevant? Discuss more here.

Just because the article you copied has no journalistic integrity, doesn't mean you have to abandon yours. Either give the thread a title that accurately reflects what Nintendo said, or make it apparent that you are relating what some random on the net said, not a ninty exec.
