Forums - Gaming Discussion - Jesus vs. Mohammed? Video Game Upsets Islamic Group

richardhutnik said:
Offending people is not art. Trying to do something for the sake of offending for its own sake, is not being an artist. Odds are also, as a game, it will suck. It will have a brain-dead AI for the fighters and likely poor graphics. So, now we have a new category to add to areas that general suck for games. The first two are: Porn games, and religious games. Now add, political games. I would count this is a religious game, but the creators are far more interested in making a point about intolerance then creating a fun game.

Oh wow, we can show people are intolerant by creating a game that offends them! That scores very few points in my book.

I don't think their actions are as cheap or as shallow as you seem to make out. Recently there have been a few murders and many more threats of murder across the EU by extremist muslims who want to force the world into respecting their beliefs(as distinct from respecting their right to hold such beliefs). In this context, an offensive game or cartoon is merely demonstrating the statement "you may threaten us, and actually murder some of us, but we won't be afraid and are willing to prove it".

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

As a christian I take no offence at the game . But I still think it's insenstive to the ideas and beliefs of other people , the fact that it doesn't affect you is irrelevant , this is interactive media being released to the masses and with good reason people find it hurtful/offensive.

Imagine if a game where your wife/mother was gropped went on the internet ? you'd probably take offense to that and be deeply upset by it , I'm pretty sure most other people wouldn't be offended , it's the fact that a person(s) may be hurt/offended by the content that is relevant.

We can take this to extremes and argue that we couldn't avoid offending others because someone , somewhere is bound to be offended by anything, but come on ? that's complete disregard for some one elses faith (I'm sure islam forbids imagery of Allah)and it is unacceptable.

I had a few problems at first, when I used God. I switched to Jesus and beat everyone easily. Mohammed gave me a few worries, but you can't stop Jesus!

So your saying the biggest problem is Jesus is OP.  This game needs to be taken down for such horrible religious bias by the developers.

Not even going to read the article TBH.

It's almost certainly about that "Faith Fighter" game and I couldn't care less if Muslims get upset.

Actually, make that any religious group.

Get a sense of humour.

HAHAHAHA! My brother was joking that he would make a game with jesus fighting other religious figures the other day XD I must tell him that news lol

a complete waste of time and a clearly offensive game........who ever made this flash game akin to the suicide bomber flash game a few years ago is clearly a dickhead

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

Why is it that ANYTIME Mohammed gets shown, Muslims get mad? Get over yourselves. I don't know how many episodes of Family Guy, Robot Chicken...Morel Orel for Christ's sake, etc. that get a good laugh out of jokes with Jesus.

Same kind of people that got mad at the music in LBP.......

meh. It's expected now

The same could be said of you.

What is it to you if a few religious groups get offended by something, like a video game or a comic, that openly attacks or commits an action that deeply offends their religion or makes serious misinterpretations of the religion?

If you feel that you need to make fun of somebody else and their religious beliefs in order to get some kicks and giggles, do it in your own privacy. Your privacy is invading my public.

I don't mean to pick on you, but this is a serious situation here. Depicting a face on Muhammad (pbuh) is a serious offense, for though we respect him a lot we make an effort in making sure people don't end up worshipping him, for we believe he is just a man and a messenger, not God Himself. In fact, Muslims (serious Muslims, not posers or less dedicated Muslims) prolly also take offense for the depiction of God and Jesus on that video game...seeing that Allah is just the Arabic way of saying God and that Jesus is a messenger who we believe as well.

I know that they are just flash games or just comics to you guys, but understand that religion is not just religion for us. It is a way of life for us. If you want to make fun of God, fine then go ahead. If you want to poke fun of Jesus Christ, then go ahead and do it in Family Guy, South Park and even in this game. Not to sound like the person defending Britney Spears on Youtube, but leave Muhammad (pbuh) and our beliefs out of it, okay? We take our religion serioiusly (not to say anything about you and your ways, but jokes on our religious beliefs is a no-no).
