Forums - Sales Discussion - Pondering Rock Band Beatles Sales

Since we are now just months before Rock Band Beatles launches, the quesiton is how well will this game sell.

I wonder about its sales not because of its price (the limited editions always have niche appeal) but because of its age.  For you to remember the Beatles before the group broke up, you have to be in your mid-40s.

I also wonder if the bubble is going to begin to burst as multiple versions of what is essentially the game are relesaed too close together (this will be the third version of RB in 22 months on the PS3 and Xbox 360, the third in 17 on the Wii).  Sports fans are used to annual editions -- but what about rhythm-matching gamers?

Any and all thoughts are appreciated -- both those who agreee and those who dissent.

Ironically, I think this might sell best on Wii since older gamers remember the Beatles more.

i dont think it will sell that well, maybe similar to the ac/dc and aerosmith packs.

To be fair i really dont have a clue, im kinda against the idea of a rock band beatles game, mainly because i play guitar and the songs, although excellent, are quite easy. you'l get the whole band experience but not much of a challenge.

Something like Guitar Hero Metallica is a lot more appealing; perfect for the kind of people that play those types of games. But i suppose its good to get a good variation!

Yeah, I can't imagine the game selling like insanely, but they'll be pretty decent. A couple hundred thousand. And like ToastyJaguar said, the songs will be pretty easy to pass since Beatles material isn't exactly the most complicated stuff out there. But that doesn't make the songs any less awesome.

this game will be bigger than jesus!

i doubt this game sets any records. will sell more than enough for profit, maybe 2 million across all platforms.

This is the only single-band rhythm game I'll be buying, and I'm 26.

These are songs that were actually played by the actual Beatles during actual Beatlemania. So here we have a giant enemy crab...

The Beatles are timeless. I'm only 19, and they're probably my favourite band. They're just cultural phenomenons that will last forever, like star Wars

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

I concur that the Beatles are timeless.  But in an era when many gamers listen to hip-hop or J-pop, I just wonder how a group that has not been together for four decades will resonate.

Maybe Beatles fans who aren't gamers will become gamers? Baby Boomers are always where the money's at.

I think its success will hinge largely on the Wii support. If they get Wii GH: WT instruments supported and they launch with the Wii as one of (if not "the") premiere platform they could do extremely well.

The biggest audience for The Beatles' and their music in the gaming markets is on the Wii and going after that market segment with a lackluster afterthought as they have in previous RB incarnations will hurt them substantially.

I hope they get things sorted out, I do love a good competition.

To Each Man, Responsibility

I think you misunderstand the audience for these games. Older gamers are very likely to pick up something like this, as proven by the fact that GH does as well or better on Wii than anything else. Also, chances are that a lot of older people who have a console for their kid just might want to try this game out with them. If this isn't the best selling single-band rhythm game it'll be second.
