Pure greed. If they open the game fine. But sell it to me at 10% off and treat it as used.

Wow I'm happy to read this. I was thinking about the same problem this week. I wanted to buy MGS4 because it's presently on sale at 29,99$...

When I entered the store the Only copy left looked like over-manipulated crap and I asked the guy if he had one behind the counter. There was not but he told me that I could just pick up a used copy for the same price, there's a bunch and some boxes are still in good shape.
Why would I pay the same price for a used box that looked better then one that is supposed to be new? That makes no sense. Very bad employee and it just shows how they care about the difference between new/used.

Never bought a new game from them and never will.

This just remind me that once I was at gamestop and there was a really hot chick buying some wii game.

I usually always received wrapped games when I bought them from gamestop but when I got Valkyria Chronicles and Mushroom Men during the sales last week I noticed that they were giving me disks that were already opened...and I paused...but really I hope something happens about it :P

“When I was 5 years old, my mom always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down “happy.” They told me I didn’t understand the assignment and I told them they didn’t understand life." - author unknown

This reminds me of when Cartman eats all the skin from the KFC chicken before all the other boys =P

Kyle: "But... that's the best part of the whole thing..."

Kenny: "Waaaaaa!"

I don't really mind if the box is opened or not.  However I always make sure I check out the disc to see if it is scratched or not.  99% of the time when I buy a new game it is unopened.

If you buy a game early in it's release, it's normally sealed. Sometimes it even has a "Do Not Sell Before XX/XX/XXX" sticker on it. After about a week, all bets are off!

I heard that every Gamestop has a King sitting in the back room. He takes the virginity of all new games.....with his penis.

Keep in mind how GameStop works. They make most of their money off used games, not new. They actually prefer used game sales to new, since they make a much greater margin on them. Used games and accessories are where they clean up; they only offer new games because most people want to trade their used games for newer releases. So they really don't care that much if people don't buy new games from them as much.

And remember, we are only a tiny portion of the game-buying public here. Most people either don't care as long as it works, or are far too stupid to even realize what is happening. I doubt they lose tons of business over this, although they lose some (they've lost quite a bit just from me, for example).

In any case, the bottom line is that calling something new that isn't new is a deceptive business practice and FTC should nail them for it. This has been the case for a long, long time and action is long overdue.

lol, that picture is from my local gamestop store in Seattle, its actually an EB store.
I wouldnt stand near the t.v. im afraid someday it might fall on someone.

I'm actually looking to get a part-time job at Gamestop, mainly for the discounts and the ability to borrow games.

However, I'd only do so with used titles. I was just talking about this earlier this week with my best friend, who used to work at Gamestop himself, and he agreed that it's pretty sketchy to do so with new titles.
