WTF is wrong with you people? Buy because it's Sony! And because Kaz lives in his own little world with his best pal Blue3 and dreams that PS3 will just explode in 2-3 years and take over the world, burying Xbox and Wii to the ground...

well, largely so that you can watch Blu-Ray movies. if it's not for Blu-Ray it wouldn't be $600 (or $500). Dedicated blu-ray players even to this day are like $400, or for $100 extra you get a "future proof" machine which all of a sudden doesn't seem like such a bad deal.

buy it when the games you want come out, simple...

You don't have to wait four years. Warhawk has already delivered Triple A quality, Ratchet and Clank will be here this fall, and MGS4 arrives next spring. This is the beginning of a deluge of quality games for the PS3. Plus, you can start renting BluRay titles.

I see your point and agree. Gaming/graphicswise there's really no reason to buy PS3 instead of 360.
Problem with what Kazuo Hirai told, is that in 4-6 years, the next generation starts, when PS3 games are "only by the underpower of PS3" compared to next gen. So the PS3 doesn't really stand out. Of course, the price has dropped by that time, but it's a little too late to start the "last gen war", when they need to start to focus on the future and the PS4.

@Lingyis: That's true, but by useability it doesn't make sense to buy more expensive machine, which is even harder to use. And besides, it doesn't even come with the remote.
Anyway, it doesn't make sense to buy a BD player now, when in couple of years you can buy rewritable BD/HD-DVD player with HD tuner for the price, what BD players cost at the moment. And besides, the current BD player isn't futureproof.

PS3 is just like wine.. let it age and it will get a lot better. More Blu-ray, more games, MGS4, more updates, PRICE drop. Not to long a go people were saying the same thing about the 360.  

Erhm am i the only one that thinks that the XBox 1080 already will be out by then featuring better graphics, and some weird video analyzer device emulating the Wii-'s motion controls.

Saying that the PS3 will have reached it's full potential by 2011-2013 is like saying that we now have the best looking atari games ever thanks to continuous support of our developers.
It's a great deal that Sony finally got ride of the bad PR-statement, but they are still balancing on the edge. (just like the PSP Lite extended battery life, thats only possible with old batteries and the reduced loading times that will show themselves for real in future games...)

I don't know, Sony really needs to get something going if they still want to fund the development of the PS4. They are trying to sell insurances now but they already need external money for that.

 I feel the same way. MS is not going to let the PS3 be future proof. I am sure that their R&D department is not on vacation waiting for the PS3's 10 year life cycle to near its end. 

He's not saying it will take 4-6 to get great games, he's saying "See how great our games are now? In a few years they'll be even better!" The same mantra will probably be adopted by the remaining Sony fans to justify their purchase in 2008 after the PS3 falls even futher behind the competition.
