I think your projections were horribly unrealistic if you expected a new browser to debut and have like a 50% marketshare within a year.

Somehow, Safari on my iPhone is just fine and dandy - I don't actually understand how the same company makes something as fantastic as the iPhone, and something as bad as (windows) Safari at the same time. |
I hear you about Safari 3 for Windows. It sucked sooo hard. So imagine my surprise when Safari 4 turned out to actually be pretty good. I still perfer Chrome personally, but the Safari 4 beta is certainly faster and has some nice features.

How long has firefox or opera been out in the market now? so, for chrome to start from 0% market share to over 1% in such a short time is pretty awesome.
you have to consider that the casual computer/internet user will use what the computer comes with - which is IE.
good for you, google.
I've been using chrome since it came out and I haven't gone back since. It's really fast and I like having the tiles of my favorite pages come up instead of a home page.
I prefer Fx to Chrome. Firefox is highly customizable while Chrome is not.
As for IE, it's just a piece of shit.
Yea, it is pretty amazing to see Netscape so damn low. I switched to that when it came out till I found out about Firefox a few years ago.

You "switched" to Netscape when it came out? (1994) Am I to assume you were a die-hard Mosaic user before that? :)
Personally I switched to IE (from Netscape) in 1998 when the IE 4.0 beta made the RTM Netscape Communicator look like it was written by monkeys - while I tried many browsers since then I always came back to IE as my favorite primary browser - until Chrome came out last fall. Chrome FTW.
No, I was using Compuserve/AOL/etc.. built in browsers that they had for their online services until we went to ISDN which was pretty cool/fast back in the day when most people just had modems. I probably didn't get Netscape right when it came out but probably around 96 or so.
