Once again you have your facts mixed up. FCP did lose a lot of it's players after the 2004 CL victory. But never did they once again won another CL cup again. Here in portugal, there are 8 teams which have an assistance average of 19.000 each week, 5 with 25.000 and the top 3 have 40.000. It isn't a lot, but you can't compare the economy of Portugal with other countries in Europe. We don't have much international players coming to portugal because we don't have the money to buy them, not because we are not competitive. FCP porto budget is limited to 40 million euros a year, so we can't afford to buy expensive players, but we manage to build some solid teams with what we get. Even alex ferguson said that porto had a good team and that he likes on of our best players, Hulk. Even then, this year benfica signed some good international players, Aimar and Reyes, which is a rare case here in portugal, but it was a nice change.
The portuguese league may not be the most competitive in Europe, but is a good solid league with some good clubs, you're just not familiar with it's reality. And let us be frank here, which top league in europe has more than a handful of great teams? Premier league can be sumed up in 6 to 7 teams, La liga as well, and bundesliga and serie A have just as much good teams.
