Forums - Microsoft Discussion - How genuinly impressed I am with Halo Wars...

Well now I have put some gaming hours in on Halo Wars ( about 10 hours) I will say it's bloody good people.

Now in 10 hours I'm only up to mission 6. Why? I'm playing on Legendary straight off the bat. And you know what, it's the first time EVER that Ive played an RTS game which FINALLY isnt about who's army is bigger. Every single RTS Ive played the likes of (C&C Red alert serires, Dawn Of War, Even the mighty Age Of Empires) they all are about racing to get the biggest army, and when the units are maxed out you attack and always win the mission.

In Halo Wars they limit your troop amounts, (nothing new here) but it's limited to population limit of 40. These plays a very impressive turn as it makes you rely on strategy alot. It has nothing to do with the 360 handling on screen enemies at once, because the covenant have streams of enemies. Some points in mission 5 you can barely se the sceneary due to how much this game throws around.

Controls are brilliant. You really never feel like you want a mouse. In fact 1 hour in and youve forgotten all about the controls.

CGI is the best in any game Ive seen, and same with the normal graphics. Best in an RTS yet (and I played Dawn Of War 2 yesterday). The effects from explosions and attention to detail is truly awesome.

Well done Ensemble, RIP.

Pop limit only 40? That's not good. Maybe the X360 can't handle more units.

@Slimebeast

1 Scorpion tank equals a population of 3
1 marine squad (I think 6 marines max ?) equals a population of 1

so you can have many units on the screen

 Is this a joke post????

LOL. If you have played it you would know that there is at points so many units on screen. It is a strategic move to make it a strategy RTS rather than the usual my armies bigger so I win.

Dont post unecessary post dude. :)

I must say, I wasn't too thrilled with the idea of RTS on consoles. I played the demo and immediately pre-ordered my game at my favorite Gamestop. Going to midnight release to pick this baby up.

It went the way of World in Conflict, which is never a bad move.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I like this idea, warcraft played just like that (90 pop), but I think 40 is too low. the 90 of WC was better.

Difference is man units have 6 for the cost of one pop. So it ends up being about 70 -100. It really isnt a problem. And you will definately see the benefits. Only RTS Ive really struggled with. Really the screen is filled with units and top notch explosions it kinda feels like the most onscreen enemies in an rts. Best thing is there is no slow down.

Also 6 players online or system link. Thats one BIG war trust me. And better yet everyone....

THE GAME HAS COOP!!!!!!!!!!!

The demo was fun. Any multiplayer thoughts? Seems like that is what will make or break this game. Coop, 3vs3, etc. Getting mine tomorrow after work.

Well, I'll have to wait for a pc port...(no x360, no money for it and no reason other than this game).
