Forums - Gaming Discussion - Dead Rising - Wii to 360 Comparison Video

To be honest, the Wii version doesn't look that much worse than the 360 version. I can only see 2 real differences:

1) Wii version has washed out colors (this is Capcom's fault, not the Wii's)
2) The Wii version lacks the major zombie count (this matters, it's the reason I won't be buying this game).

Anyway, it looks better than I initially expected.

It looks good but not as good as the 360 version. Capcom could have done a better job on it though.

The car section is pretty funny. I have to to say chasing another vehicle whilst mowing down hundreds of zombies is great fun. The game has its moments. I'm glad I bought it. Not quite at the end yet, got the final case to complete now.

If you have time it's worth a play through. I reckon you can complete normal mode within 7 hours.

Yes.

www.spacemag.org - contribute your stuff... satire, comics, ideas, debate, stupidy stupid etc.

You have to watch the HD version of the comparison clip to judge this and see that there is quite a big difference in grafix. I watched the SD version first and got the wrong impression that the difference is minor.

But the big let down is the small amount of zombies on the Wii version.

Don't blaim the developer though - why wouldn't he make his best to make use of the Wii hardware and make the best game possible?

I think this shows that processing power does matter, not only to make a beaitful looking game but sometimes is important for great gameplay also.

were there zombies on the wii version?

2 things. First off the number of zombies increases, but having just beat the game I can say with certainty that those screenshots have more zombies than there ever are.

Secondly I think if you play this game you will understand some of the serious graphical issues. The collision detection for instance is terrible, parts of you are always traveling through walls. Also the graphics are quite a bit worse in person. I don't own the 360 version but I beat it a while back and the difference here is significant. The zombies are very very very low rez and the textures are really pretty sad throughout the game. On the bright side there are some things to like about the game, the aiming for instance is great. All in all this game is decent, but the poodles and parrots take a lot of fun out of the random zombie killing and instead just encourage you to run from objective to objective.

Not a disaster, but it should have been better.

That's assuming the game actually is that washed out. Video captures show more vivid colors, and I notice these comparison shots are not taken at the same time of day. Shots of the 360 version are clearly at sunset (look at the sky when it's shown), while the Wii shots are at midday. Not claiming it would make much of a difference, but those shots are making some things look worse.

As for the zombie count, these seem to be first day vids. You're not going to get much in either. Let's see some late game vids with the densest areas.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

^^^ Agreed, in my experience the colors are nowhere near as muted as they seem in this video. This is not a colorful game mind you, but it wasn't on the 360 either. Off all the things that could be said of this game, washed out doesn't even make the list.

I should also add the game is not a graphical showcase game on the 360. Capcom stated they had to remove a lot of the texturing to fit all those enemies in.

Where the game showed off graphically was in the lighting. Yes, the Wii can handle lighting like that, but the CPU is kind of busy with the zombies. And even if they could squeeze it in, this game is the first of it's kind for the Wii. It's not easy to do firsts in a spectacular fashion (as Capcom noted the 360 version wasn't that spectacular either).

I wonder how good the 360 version would look without the lighting effects.
