nope.. that would be stupid... it isnt required.

oh and sony?  royalties?  what are you on about?  they are just one of many many compnaies (including microsoft) that would pick up royalties from blu ray sales...

I was under the impression Sony owned the rights?

No, sony is one of numerous companies that have rights. They get but a fraction of the money from blu-ray. And why should they eat crow because of blu-ray again? I don't understand, it runs on DVDs and streaming media. Should PS3 and 360 eat crow and ad Itunes support? I mean Itunes is kicking CDs ass nowadays.

What I meant was rather than been stubborn and not giving in because BR won why deprive your customers.

After all when HD was in the race they had add on players.

I didnt know various companies had the rights to BR.

There really is not a need for them to release an add on. You can get an Arcade 360 and a Stand Alone for the same price as a PS3. They aren't going to use it for gaming this gen, so what's the point now

I think if they could make a cheap Blu-Ray add-on for the 360 it would do quite well considering how expensive the stand-alone players still are. I also don't get to enjoy the netflix arrangement in Canada :(.

Consoles Owned: Atari 2600, NES, Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, N64, Gamecube, Wii, XBOX360

just go buy one. an add on would be unnecessary.

MrBubbles Review Threads: Bill Gates, Jak II, Kingdom Hearts II, The Strangers, Sly 2, Crackdown, Zohan, Quarantine, Klungo Sssavesss Teh World, MS@E3'08, WATCHMEN(movie), Shadow of the Colossus, The Saboteur

Absolutely not. MSFT would never go for this until maybe next gen and I have a strong feeling they will do an HD-DVD format and in the later years of the consoles life make it "720" games DLable.

I dont think so, the shelves with BR are getting bigger and bigger.

I don't think MS will ever release a Blu-ray 'add-on'. They'll be too weary of a cost analysis against the PS3 and a public perception that further illustrates that Sony gives you more for less.

However, I can foresee them entertaining the idea of incorporating an internal player (in a new sku) should their lead over the PS3 to suddenly fall into jeopardy. A logical analysis of increased PS3 sales at a greater price comparatively would lead to the conclusion that the included BD factors as the extra buying appeal.

With the lead being what it is though (all time high) this will be the furthest thing from their minds.

And how will all the old games play on that new 360 sku?

Most 4x BD read DVDs at 12x - so it would be the same.

EDIT: Yikes that was for Blu-ray discs...
