On a global scale, it is like attempting to get really excited because a county or specific town has a sudden rise in sales in one particular item.

It is a pretty small blip. The only hard #s I could find is an announcement that the PS2 had sold 1 million units by late 2003 just before the holiday season in the Nordic countries which contain Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. Which would suggest that just over 83k consoles are sold in each country a year which makes about 1600 sold a week. Oh yeah, and there were 60 million PS2s out at that point so the four countries combine made up about 1.7% of PS2s.
But considering we have a Sony exec saying the PS2 it currently ouselling the Wii month to month in all major markets, I'm hardly going to start belieing the company that is the distributor for Sony without any actual numbers.
