@badassbab,
i find the whole "nintendo is abandoning the hardcore" funny. cuz nintendo offers all the same games they always have but this gen they've just added even more games to their resume. its the third parties that have abandoned the core gamers on the wii. although that looks to change this year. nintendo made a console perfectly capable of having all the core games in the world, third parties just haven't been putting them on the wii, which lead to less traditional gamers buying the wii, which means at least for right now the audience for core games is a little smaller than it is on the other two systems. it actually has nothing to do with nintendo's console. its the developers' lack of effort. if third parties had supported the wii from the get go like they did with the hd twins there would be just as many "hardcore" games on the wii as the other two systems. not nintendo's fault that 3rd parties haven't been putting forth quality effort to make wii games until now. the only way that "nintendo abadoned the hardcore" statement even makes sense is if you think hardcore = best graphics, but that is just ridiculous.
so when we are talking about a company leaving the console business, that doesn't mean all the games for the system suddenly disappear. it means those games would be made for the other two systems. so i'm not basing it on software cuz all the same software would still be around. what would change would be innovation in the industry, and nintendo innovates far more than microsoft or sony do. that is how i came to my decision.
but even by your logic just looking at this gen what if one of the consoles with all their games suddenly disappeared. well still, without the wii the industry would start to die because most developers wouldn't be able to make money with only super expensive ps360 games and a lot more developers would go out of business. so even in that situation it would be the worst if nintendo suddenly left the industry, and whats worse yet, your precious super-graphics hardcore games would spell that demise. i love great graphics as much as the next guy, great hd graphics blow me away, but they've advanced to a point where even the least powerful system this gen has amazing graphics (when actual effort is put into the game) and the highest quality hd graphics just aren't profitable a lot of the time right now, so they are often sorta like an unneeded gamble that doesn't actually make the game any better.
anyways, i've been gaming since before the NES and i've found plenty of great games for the wii, and i only have a wii right now and i'm just fine. i have about a dozen really good games (well, one of them is bad, but that was an unwanted xmas gift) and there are a lot more games i want but i don't wanna spend all that money. the key i find with the wii is to not just go buy the super hyped games cuz there aren't that many thanks to lack of big budget 3rd party support, but when you go get the smaller and maybe less popular games you'll find plenty of gems just as good as the most hyped hd games out there. alright, there's my rant. enjoy.
