Has any other system in history ever come back from an 8 mill console deficit? Doubt it but maybe. As far as being on top in the HD console race I think Microsoft has it this gen.

I don't really know what will happen by the end of the generation. However, I can predict the ps3 sales and 360 sales will be very close. A lot can happen between now and the end of the genertion.

It won't overtake the 360 before late 2010 at the earliest though, more likely 2011.

God of War III, Gran Turismo 5 and Final Fantasy XIII will cut that 8 million gap by 1.5 to 2 million at least. Probably more if any of them coincide with a $100 price cut. Honestly though, how fast Sony catches up depends just as much on how well the 360 sells. Personally, I see Microsoft having serious difficulties selling as many 360s in 2009 as they did in 2008. Sans perhaps Star Ocean 4 and Splinter Cell Conviction, the 360 lacks ANY definite system selling games. Almost every single game on the 360's tentative 2009 release list is either a new IP (Alan Wake, Ninja Blade, Venetica, etc) or a sequel/spin-off to a game that's already saturated the 360's market. (Halo 3: ODST, Halo Wars, Forza 3, Mass Effect 2, etc) Furthermore, after the Christmas rush has calmed down, PS3 sales and 360 sales will begin to level out once again with either one only selling slightly more than the other. That being said, now that the 360 is only $200, there's really no room left for Microsoft to issue a game changing price cut. The most they can likely do by the end of 2009 is drop the Arcade to $150, which will seem meager next to the PS3's $100 price drop.

There's always a chance... However, I'm now convinced that the chance is very small. I would bet money against the PS3 passing the 360. For all of Sony's advantages and good moves, MS had an equal or better answer. I don't expect that to change to the point that the PS3 overcomes an 8 million gap.

As for the 10-year plan, it's not a plan... it's a hope and it won't help the PS3 pass the 360.

Even if ps3 has a chance i doubt that microsoft will be sitting on it's ass.

This depends in your own opinion. For me the Wii powns the 360 and PS3 together. Its a matter of own opinion.

The ps3 has a good chance in coming in second, but it won't be until 2011(at the eariliest);however, it would outsell the ps3 because the next-gen will start by then.
