Now as far as I can remember, I've had no bigger 'holy shit' moment than in this section of Metal Gear Solid 2. What with the colonel calling and telling you to "TURN YOUR PLAYSTATION OFF RIGHT NOW!" and then this, this piece of horrid brilliance called "FISSION MAILED". I was one of the poor souls who had to replay the damn thing because I hadn't saved the game when the bizarre moments started to occur, and I was tricked by the bloody game into thinking it was really happening.. by 'it', i mean a cataclysmic world event.

meh, i was more surprised by the shooting incident at the very beginning of cod4. that was like damn, i'm being shot directly in the head by some terrorist dude.

The sex scene in Mass Effect...yeah...while my mother-in-law and the kids were sitting in the living room as I played...DOH...It was like...errr...go upstairs kids....and she all of a sudden had something to do in the kitchen...lol! HOLY SHIT!

i think metal gear has the best surprises. the fight with psycho mantis was full of bloody epic win. when the screen turned into "HIDEO", i really left my couch and started checking the a/v cables and the next moment, i was dead.

Eternal Darkness had some pretty good insanity moments, they caught me out a few times.

Apart from that: "Your princess is in another castle!" (wtf?) for the 50th time ;)

For me my biggest moment was probably when I first saw the opening CGI for Final Fantasy VIII. Back then that was the coolest thing I had ever seen in a video game.

Another one would be when I first played Silent Hill 2. I was walking the streets of Silent Hill in the fog early in the game, walked past a van and one of those fugly things scurried out from underneath it and ran right past me. I had the lights off at the time and I jumped out of the chair. Scared the shit out of me.
