Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft's OS market share lowest in 15 years!

They probably used Sales on each copy of OS sold to estimate the market share, but sales data are very skrewed favoring Mac OS. We need to realize there are millions of people out there custome built system using their old copy windows(legit or pirate) or getting their system pre-installed wth window(most likely pirate version) that these data dont get to caculated into market share.

This data is not about OS sales.  This group that collected the data monitors a specific group of websites and sees what OSs people are using when they browse to the sites.

Actually these stats are based on internet usage, so pirated copies are probably counted.

Well APPLe doesn't deserve marketshare so I hope M$ wins!

Eh. I'd rather have Apple and Linux fighting at higher percentages because it creates competition. Competition is always great for advancing technology.

No, firms with huge amounts of mioney to put into R&D are good for technology, too much competition can kill development.

than explain to me how some free Linux distros, Unix, SunOS, and others are like 10 years ahead of everything Windows Vista offers.

Instead of making some vague claim, why don't you give some examples of things in Linux distros that really are ten years in advance of Windows?

how much heavier then xp are those?

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

lol....its still at 90% guys.....move along

M$ rules OS's

however if Windows 7 is a vista-esque screw up they may have a problem

LMAO still 90%? Then whether or not its at an all time low probably doesn't mean jack; thats still ungodly huge. I wouldn't mind seeing some Linux push through there, though...

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

ssj...Couldn't you post some innovations that would actually be useful. Those would be neat to play around with for about 10 minutes, but do not really offer anything useful. Notes on the back of windows?!?!

Didn't Dell and HP one time threatened to start offering PCs with Linux but then MS cut them a deal or something?

Dell and several other large manufactures did sell Linux on the certain PCs at the turn of the century. However, they soon found out that Linux was not in great demand at that time. Fast forward to today and Dell, HP and other large computer manufactures have all been selling Linux successfully for several years now.

If you are interesting in this subject, here is a good article, from a website with lots of info on what Microsoft has been doing over the years.

I've used a desktop like the 3rd video and it only used 400Mb of memory. Compiz Fusion uses the GPU for complex desktop visual effects and memory load is not that bad.

do you not realize how useful that would actually be? if your researching facts you can pull out small parts of different web pages and than use them later.
