Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft buying Square Enix?

Who thinks that if there is any chance to takeover SE Microsoft will step forward?

If in the future SE becomes less profitable in the changing gaming industry, it might need investors; it would be very good for MS in Japan.

A big Japanese company would be nice for MS to take over.

It might never happen, but the popularity of the Fabula Nova Crystallis FFXIII series will be crucial for SE; so it could also happen before this generation ends.

I remember back when the Final Fantasy movie was coming to theaters, I thought Sony was buying Square. Boy was I wrong. And no. I don't think Microsoft is buying Square Enix.

If it is true, it will be awesome, as MS will bring something big for sure!!

MS already lured away a lot of their developers and programmers to work for Mistwalker. The results have been 360 exclusives such as Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon. Those are both decent games but they havent been successes for MS. I doubt they would try and push their luck further with SE.

I agree with you final point

if FFXIII flops Fabula Nova Crystallis flops

thats why FF13 was made multi-plat....it is the cornerstone for a new FF7 like universe

Never in a million years. MS didn't wanna buy Take2 because it produces multiplatform games and the value of the company would have to be written down immediately after purchase. What would be the point?

I think they where in negotiation but didn't happend.

No. Microsoft is unlikely to buy out another 3rd party after the sub-par success Rare has given MS.

However, it'd be likely that Microsoft could seek to work harder with SE to provide more X360 content.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I'm going to guess that this probably is not going to happen. If I'm wrong I will be very, very, very surprised.

It just seems like a bad investment.

Thats probably never going to happen cause of the back catalog of games they made for the NES, SNES and Playstation 1 and 2. if they did then it would be just like they are with Ninty and Rare with the old games.
