@Happy Squirrel

Your point is what? Did I say MP 1 and 2 didn't sell? I said Metroid Prime will sell good but not even close t Halo, Smash Bros. or Mario.

Look at the sales of Metroid Primes and compare them to Mario and Super Smash sales on the Gamecube.

Both Metroids combined sold 4 million. One Halo alone doubled those numbers on a similar install base worldwide.

Where did I claim Metroid Prime isn't a good game? You listing me the scores of the last two games is great and all but we all know scores and sales don't go hand in hand.

Listing the great lineup of games on other platforms is pretty pointless. If you own a gamecube why would you be choosing between Metroid Prime and GTA or Halo unless you have 2 or more consoles?

I think you should show the Metroid Prime scores when they come out to the Wii people who are complaining about the 'bias' against the Wii from game reviewers.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Metroid Prime is probably the game which sells best to the "core" gamer audience out of all of Nintendo's published games; how many people in the "Core" gamer demographic do you know that don't own 2 consoles or a PC? Hell, even the Nintendo DS launched that month and many of Nintendo's early adopters would have bought that and impacted sales ... On top of all of that 2004 was really when third parties were starting to abandon the Wii at a rapid pace (after this point in time the vast majority of third party games that were released with a average review of 80% or higher were multi-platform games and mostly sports games).

Basically, Metroid Prime 2 was doomed from the start ...

My point was that I think you (and many other people) are grossly underestimating Metroid Prime 3; it is released a full month before the next highly anticipated game is released (Halo 3), over 2 months before the next highly anticipated Nintendo game (Super Mario Galaxy), and it is the first game released of the best half-year line-up Nintendo has ever released. Metroid Prime 3 will be in the top 10 best selling games of 2006 and will likely be in the top 5. Certainly, Halo 3, Super Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros. Brawl will (potentially) outsell it but I see few other games which will approach its sales levels; in fact I see no other exclusive game for any platform which will match its sales.

I could be wrong, but I don't think I am ...

Hi guys I'm new here! Just to clarify I'm a Wii owner and waiting for price cuts to buy either of one of the other 2 consoles so pls dont flame me as a fanboy although I might be more biased towards Nintendo :).

On topic: I believe that Prime 3 will do much better than previous primes. Why? Well first and foremost the WIi userbase is bigger than the GameCube's was during the time when Prime 1 launched. The hype surrounding the game is enormous and if controls turn out what they are supposed to be it will live up to the hype.

Also Wii gamers have been dying to get their hands on a deep, single player game. We got Mario Strikers last June [I'm European] which is an AWSOME game but still a bit lacking in the deep single player department. So gamers who want hours of deep gaming will buy it on impulse!

Anyway my prediction is:
Fist month - 300K
After holiday season - 900K/1.2M

Metroid Prime 3 Hype Level: Corrupted

Reviews:

1UP - 9.0

IGN - 9.5

It is a hardcore game through and through. You will get your ass kicked by bosses. You will be stumped by the sometimes complex, but never overbearing, exploration.
"You'll never want to play any shooter with dual analog sticks ever again - it's THAT good.". - Gametrailers

Since there is mini-drought with Wii software (quality software that is), I think that this game will sell much better than it's predecessors.

300K first week, over 1 million by Christmas time. I actually want to say 1.3~ million, but I'll be skeptical.

With the Wii being insanely popular and in the need of a good FPS, MP3 should be able to clear that 1 million by Christmas easily.

By Wii life's end I say it should even sell about 8 million (assuming Wii gets over 80 million units out). MP3 just seems like one of those "must have" titles for this console.

By life end:

  • Wii- 100 million+
  • Xbox360- 35~40 million
  • PS3- 30 million
  • PSP- 30~32 million ------------- FAILURE
  • NDS- 85~90 million (Skeptical)  - FAILURE
  • NDS- 100 million+ (Optimistic) -- Success!

Some of you are a little optimistic. Metroid is a big game, sure, but it has a LOT of competition in August, as shown in this beautiful thread...

http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=4583

This will likely get me slaughtered, but August will be a 360 month. Everyone will buy Madden and Bioshock, no one will have money left for Corruption. I'd put it at...

110-120k first week...

550k by end of September...

Million seller by 08!

Thats funny, I guess I am not like everyone because I own all three systems but only plan to purchase MP3 this month.

This is only a simple prediction:

- First Week in North America - 250.000 units.
- At the end of the year in North America - 850.000 units.
- Lifetime in North America - 1.400.000 units.

- Lifetime in Japan - 350.000 units.
- Lifetime in Europe - 800.000 units.

- World wide lifetime sales - 2.550.000 units.

First Week NA - 250 000

Lifetime in NA  - 750 000

Lifetime Worldwide - 1 400 000

Metroid 1 sold 2m in the US, and 2.8m WW.

This one should do better - purely because its the Wii vrs GC. But as its a "hardcore" title, will depend heavily on scores that the game gets.

My guess is 3m in the US, and 5m WW (lifetime).

1.4m lifetime WW - is very, very pessimistic IMO.

for whatever it's worth, thesimexchange thinks it's 5.4mln worldwide lifetime and 750k in august.

both seem a little high, especially 750k in august.

so based on those numbers... 550k first week NA. 1.0 mln first month. 2.25 mln NA lifetime.

the Wii is an epidemic.
