Mario Kart Wii has sold 8.24m units in 25 weeks. Mario Kart DS took ~103 weeks to achieve this. Nintendogs took ~76 weeks to achieve this.

Mario Kart wii has the potential to break 17m units at week 150. And if it continues to outpace Nintendogs (which would be tough) it could break 20m total sales.

Hey nordlead, keep in mind that Mario Kart Wii still hasn't had a single holiday season as yet to boost sales. (Anyone who thinks this game won't sell 2-3m additional copies over the next three months is crazy.) That will pull the averages up even further. If the Wii continues to sell at its current pace, I honestly see no reason why this game won't hit 20m. It's this generation's Grand Theft Auto, the breakout game that appeals to everyone alike.

I echo those who pointed to Wii Play as well. It's crazy how we all ignore this game and don't even count it, just because of the controller bundle.

My Website

End of 2008 totals: Wii 42m, 360 24m, PS3 18.5m (made Jan. 4, 2008)

Whoa that's crazy. This is definitly going to be the top-selling Wii game.

Halo 3 might be the game to hold the throne for the 2nd longest through the entire gen though. MKWii will only hold it for 2-5 weeks actually, unless Wii Fit runs out of stock in christmas, and MK catches up again.

MKWii sold more in week 25 in Others than it sold in any other week, save for the first 4 weeks.

Considering that WiiFit seems to be selling every unit they can make, I think its a given there won't be enough for Christmas. Wiifit will probably take the lead, then lose it, then regain it for good in early 2009.

It depends how far ahead Wii Fit can get before it's supply constrained as well. It sold 300,000 units this week. That's unheard of for September when the game is 44 weeks old. By the end of October I think it will be about 300-400k ahead, providing sales between Wii Fit and MK stay about the same. By the end of December if it falls behind, they'll both be well over 10 million anyways. But, if Nintendo can manage to keep supply continuous for Wii Fit across the globe it will pull away like a bat out of hell.

So if it outsells GTA IV, how long would that take?

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Well doh. :p No surprises there. That MKWii would outsell Halo 3 eventually was a given. Still, nice to see. And WiiFit will soon do the same. :p Wii Music will probably follow suit. next year.

Poor Halo 3. It tried so hard, and got so far, but in the end, it doesnt even matter....

Wait.. Halo 3 can't faint, the way it did before, don't turn your back on it, it won't be ignored....

I hope Mario Kart Wii hits 11 million before January.

But Halo 3 is so numb..It can feel us there....Now it's so much more aware..

Well, seeing GTA IV is now below 50K/week combined, and MKWii is steadily a bit above 150K, I believe we can assume a (roughly) 100K win each week for some time even after christmas.

The current gap is 2.3M now, with MKWii at 8.2M and GTA IV at 10.5M.

By the end of the year, I believe the situation will be MKWii 10M-10.5M and GTA IV at 11.5-12M, so a roughly 1.5M gap (that's a bit pro GTA IV)

So my prediction is: Mario Kart Wii will pass GTA IV combined sales in this fiscal year.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

There are gamers for each, and some mix, I prefer Brawl over Kart but when I get tired of Brawl I have no problems playing Kart.

No love loss between the two really, Nintendo recieves cash either way.
