If the all the console were to be priced like that then the Ps3 will blow everything out of the water.
End of '08 predictions (made by theprof00): PS3: 20m, 360: 23.5m, wii: 42m
Now Playin': PS3|Resistance 2, LBP, Uncharted and Fifa 09, PSP| Ratchet and Clank: Size matters, 360| Gears of war 2 and Fallout 3.
God said: Does live still charge, does the elite still not have wifi? Sony easily offers the best hardware if all systems are at an equal price, and they'll likely have the most great games by that point. |
If you want to talk about cost of ownership and add it to a console's price, why not add cost of electricity? PS3 consumes a LOT more electricity than a 360 (and 360 in turn much more than a Wii), so if you want to talk about Live being a necessary cost (and there are quite a few million x360 owners who don't seem to care about online play), you need to consider all costs of ownership.
Not everyone needs wifi either... I keep my network hardwired on a gigabit lan. I'm glad I didn't have to pay for extra features I'd never use

The Ghost of RubangB said: The NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, and GameCube all launched at $200, so if you take inflation into account, every Nintendo console was their cheapest console ever. Yet at the same time, every Nintendo console was their least successful ever. Each one was cheaper than the last and sold fewer than the last. It wasn't until the Wii that they raised the launch price and became insanely successful beyond all our wildest dreams. This proves that magical price points are definitely not the most important factor for a system's success. However, the PS3 and the Neo-Geo have proven that horrible price points can be the most important factor for a system's failure. |

Yep, my router sits about 2 feet away from my 360. Why the **** would I pay for something I am not gonna use? I did need the HDD though so the Arcade was out of the question for me. And the cost of Live is measly compared to my other monthly expenses.
EDIT: In all honesty, if Live became free, I would barely ****ing notice. The money is already automatically debited from my bank account on a monthly basis(yes, I am paying a rather large amount more than I could be).
@ JaggedSac: But then other people (like me) who need wifi are faced with a ONE HUNDRED DOLLAR surcharge. Ridiculous.

Price is part of competition. But on topic: That is a good deal all around. The best deal is determined by your taste in games.
