Forums - Gaming Discussion - Who else NEVER buys USED games,

I never ever buy used games and never sell my games. I don't think it's worth it at all and I don't want to help Game in cheating myself and customers. A used Wii game at Game sells for around £35 (depending on the game but let's say Mario & Sonic at the Olympics for example). If you go to Asda (which is where I buy my games) you can get the game brand new for about the same price. So that's why I never buy used games. I never sell my games because I would be very pissed off to sell a game to Game and they give me £10 for a game they would then sell to someone else for £35. Also I don't need the money so just hold on to my games. I am unlikely to ever go back to play most of them but would rather just keep the games or maybe give some to my nephew than be cheated by game shops.

First off they are rarely that much cheaper, IE. $55 at Gamestop for a $60 game, wtf....  Second, I don't like to put dirty discs or anything thats not handled by myself in my console... Opinions?

You're wrong. I buy used games all the time, I also rent via gamefly. They are always cheaper, off ebay, I can get pretty much any game you want over a year old for 20ish bucks, and I can get all the new games you buy for 30-45. That's after shipping. Ebay will save you a ton of money, and the games are almost universally in better shape than you get them from gamestop, even if you buy them new, since they now automatically break the factory seal for any game they keep overnight.

You shop on Ebay, you play the same games for way less money. You use gamefly, you rent used games and pay 12 dollars a month.

Name a game, and I'll tell you the price I can get it to you for, used. I guarntee you it will be much, much cheaper than buying it new, assuming the game costs 40+ dollars new.

The only games I buy new are games I want in the first month of release, or games that I want to support the company that creates it. I bought Vesperia new, for instance, and a strategy guide. I bought FES new, I bought Bioshock new, I buy Nintendo games new, I buy Phoenix Wright and EBA new. I'll buy Fable 2, Fallout 3, and Gears 2 new. That's about it.

Used games, assuming you don't buy from the ripoff pawnshop gamestop, and actually know where to go to buy them, are much, much cheaper, and in great condition, if you know how to shop. People with active Ebay accounts get such great deals, lol, it's like being a shopping insider.

It's basically paying for what the game is really worth, instead of some preset amount. Even new, factory sealed games on ebay, are usually much cheaper. Like the other day, I got a factory sealed copy of Crackdown for 8 dollars. I have factory sealed Dead Rising and Oblivion from Ebay, paid 20 bucks for both of them together. I have like 35 360 games, 96 PS2 games, 14 gamecube games, and that's not counting the hundreds of games I've resold on Ebay after I beat then for more than I paid.

In fact, I made so much money, I was able to afford a new HD Sammy about 3 months ago, just from selling the games I bought off ebay.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

I have no problems buying used games, and i have no problem selling my old games.

Games i want are usualy brought at launch so no used games are around. If for some reason i miss a gem alog the way or dont buy a game at launch because i already have too many games to play then i dont have a problem getting the game 2nd hand providing it is on the ps3.

Because bluray disks are very hard to scratch and damage so you can be confident that the game you are buying is going to run the same as the day it was made.

I highly recommend people use half.ebay.com over eBay. It uses the same ratings system so you can check to see if they are a reliable seller, shipping is standardized via Media Mail so no price gouging, and they categorize games into "New," "Like New," "Very Good," and "Acceptable" conditions. You'll generally find the same prices or cheaper than eBay too.

And believe me... Like New really is like new. I bought every single PS3 game I own except Burnout Paradise and Resistance from Half, and you would never know. Not a scratch on them. I have never paid more than $40 for a PS3 game (after shipping even).

Another place to look is places that rent video games. The rental games are usually cheaper than the used versions. Some places also resurface the disc before they put them on sale, which makes them as good as new. Some of the rental copies I buy are indistinguishable from new, including the box and manual since they are not rented.

I buy used...it's just I don't trade in my games anymore. I'm done giving Gamestop profit off my used games. Like I am playing Luigi's Mansion. I bought that game for $10. I know for sure if I was to trade it in I would get $1.50 or something smaller than that.

I only get used if its reasonable. Like EBGames is doing a used sale of the week. Selling Lost Planet: Extreme Condition for the Xbox 360 for $9.99. Now that is a freaking still considering that game used could be $25 original price tag.

So stuff like that go into me buying used items. But if its something awesome like GT5: Prologue, Warhawk or Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, well I will be buying brand spankin new!

generally prefer to buy new games but have a few used games if they are amzing value. I never trade in games or rent though

Remember folks, you can always buy used games from Amazon by shopping at the VGChartz.com store.

Half.com and amazon stores are both good, and both come with very deliberate refund systems. However, ebay often has a wider selection, and if you know how to shop, it often has items cheaper than half.com.

I'm not saying which one is better(I use both, and go for whichever has the better deals at the time, I always use buy it now, never, ever bid, it's a waste of time), but I am saying that you shouldn't dismiss or marginalize Ebay just because you fear being ripped off. Get your games from small sellers with 80+ reviews 100 percent rating, and read the description. If you like what you see, you won't get screwed. You have 60 days to pull your money back either way.

One time I was selling Ninja Gaiden 2 on Ebay. I advertised it as "like new." Sold it for 48 bucks. The lady I sold it to, wasn't satisfied, and said she wanted a refund. It was bullshit, let me tell you, because the game was in f'n mint condition, lol. Anyway, I gave her an 8 dollar refund and she said she was satisfied. I've managed to keep a 100 percent rating after selling nearly 100 games on Ebay. You won't have a perfect rating after 100 transactions, unless you keep your customers happy, and if you do, then they don't have any fear from you and can buy with confidence. Buying from me off ebay usually gets you as good of a deal as you can get on the internet, and you'll get the game as advertised, or your money back.

E-bay isn't fool proof, but you can get into just as many problems from half.com or amazon stores. Not to mention, off ebay, shipping is almost universally quicker.

For instance, another story, Amazon stores, I ordered a guitar hero wired controller for Xbox 360. The store never sent it, but the site made me wait 6 weeks before I could report him for not sending the controller. When I finally did, the appeals process took approximitely 2 weeks. So, it took me about 4 weeks longer to get my money back than it would have if I bought off ebay and the same thing happened.

Ebay, and half.com are both good services. I wouldn't be able to claim that either service is better than the other. I think ebay has an average lead in price, and half.com has an average lead on dependability, in my experience, however both are very cheap and both are very dependable. There are backups in place to prevent scams on both systems, so both options are quite a lot better than nearly any other way of buying games...unless they fall off a truck.
