Forums - Sales Discussion - Little Big Planet Versus Fable 2

Mario rules the world and will keep rulling the world for a long time, I doubt sackboy will have any say on it.

and one prediction
Wii Fit from Oct 21st on >> LBP

just to show what a real casual game's appeal is...

Waron: you're forgetting that all PS3 hardcore gamers will buy LBP just because they want it to succeed (I even suspect that some will buy more than one copy just for that purpose ^^)

For me LBP has the same problem as Viva Pinata. Yes, sack boy is cute (just as pinatas). Yes, its offer cute colorful world (just like Viva Pinata). Yes, its has a new and innovative gameplay (just like VP).So what? Its look kiddish! I'm 30 years old male, you can't tempt me with little sack boys and a platform game. The biggest audience for such kind of games are on Nintendo console. Anyway I still think LBP can sold more then Fable 2, cos casuals, kids and ps3 fanboys are > then 360 WRPG fans.

NOT TRUE. thanks to ridiculous price of ps3, sony console doesn't have kids nor casual gamers. and casual gamers will not buy overpriced console for one game and BD player when they can buy same console and multimedia device with 5 games for half ps3 price and they can buy wii for 250$.

besides oblivion and mass effect each sold more than 2mln copies on 360 so far and first fable sold 2.6mln on xbox.

LBP will be milion seller but it will sell similar or even worse than first viva pinata on 360 thanks to no casual gamers and kids on ps3 while fable 2 should hit at least 2mln mark especially since this game is exclusive for 360, is from established IP and will be hyped pretty hard by microsoft.

We will see. May be you are right. Ratchet & Clank Future: ToD sold only 1.31m copies and I can say it's a great kiddish game. On the other side Oblivion sold 2.54m and Mass Effect 2.00m. All this catroonish like games have the same problem - they are not on Nintendo console. There is a big chance that LBP, Viva Pinata 2 and Banjo N&B can have the same fate.

Fable 2 will probably sell more honestly, I know LBP will sell to a lot of Sony fans, I'm getting a PS3 soon and still see nothing about the game that interests me, people rave about the level editing which has been apart of PC gaming for years, really nothing about the game other then it being a PS3 exclusive seems like big points to make for the game.

I think if the same game came out on Wii or 360 as a exclusive everyone that's ranting about LBP being so great would trash talk the game, just like they do for every exclusive on some other console... >_> really it's time to give it up, enjoy your games guys quit hating everyone else =P every console fan has their list of games they like that are exclusive. Now if these threads could be more realistic about sales then fanboy bias I wouldn't mind them as much =\

Tough call... But I'd call LBP as it is going to be bundled.. Still Fable 2 can top LBP.

Fable 2 will dominate LBP

So far from my sources I've heard that in it's current state, LBP will receive review scores between 7.5 and 8.5.  This is due to a lack of depth in the packaged game, thus requiring too much on the users creativity.  Unfortunately if you don't have the time, patience, and creativity, your level design will fail and will not be fun at all.  After you spend a couple hours to make a level, which you'll only play for about 20 minutes because it sucks, you’ll soon realize the game is not for you a really just a waste of time.  Downloading other user content will help this problem, however it will be difficult to find good levels at first, then eventually all levels will become so similar the game will just begin to get repetitive.

Fable 2 on the other hand will receive between 8.5 to 9.5, not quite perfect but almost everything you’ve read, heard and seen is in this game (unlike Fable 1).  A world to interact with, where your actions cause real time consequences for the people and cities which populate the game.  You mold the world, your character, kids, wife, dog, storyline, citizens… etc… Tons of depth and skills, outcomes and story paths… multiple playthroughs are a must.

they're two totally different games.....

LBP>Fable2 but for different reasons.

fable 2 can be played and completed and go into the 2nd hand market for resale slowing down sales of the game. However, LBP has the scope to be a never ending game due to its user creation feature and this is the reason why many people will be purchasing the game. A lot of the people think the genre aimed at is kids, but it isnt just kids, it is also for gamers who would love to create their own games. I can imagine the crazy shit that will be created with levels free for download for all PS3 users. With new free levels up for grab and people becoming more creative, the game can last as long as the ps3 exists. It will be one of those games you wouldn't want to return due to its forever lasting appeal.

So although it may sell slower (maybe), the overr life time sales will be far higher then those of Fable2.

Can't wait to see what the japanese gamers come out with. I am looking forward to some hardcore manga type level designs!!!

lbp is going to rape Fable 2 into submission, oh i can just picture the rampant sackboys now.
