PLAYSTATION 3 $100 Price Cut Hits July 15

According to a poster on the DVD Talk Forums, the Circuit City promotional sales flyer for the week of July 15th indicates the PLAYSTATION 3 will be getting a price drop. The PS3 is now listed at $499 for the week of July 15-21, the week after E3 2007. This should be considered rumor for now until we receive confirmation from Sony, but I'm guessing we'll hear more about this at next week's E3 press conference.

Over at Cheap Ass Gamer there is a forum regular by the name of Speedy1961 who regularly posts early pre-release leaks of ads from Circuity City, Target and Best Buy. He's been doing it a long time and appears to be extremely reliable. And he just released the information on the Circuit City ad for the week following E3 and guess what appears? The oft rumored 100 dollar price cut on the PS3.

People have been calling for a price cut since immediately after last year's E3 and their voices have reached a deafening crescendo recently, so it is by no means a big surprise that Sony would drop the price. Unfortunately, this is still going to be filed under the 'Rumor' category because of the lack of hard evidence. Some supposed scans have shown up on the net, but they're a bit dubious. Also there is confusion over whether or not this is a permanent price cut. It seems absolutely insane that it wouldn't be; a temporary price cut (one week) would just aggravate things. We'll find out next week for sure though!

Is it a Sony price drop or just a special for CC to get rid of excess stock?

Well its Circuit City so cant be sure if its just them or everyone.

$100 is like £50 so not that much difference for me in the uk. 

Quite possibly true. Sony can't let the current situation go on much longer.

This also means the 360 will likely receive a matching price cut - unless there is "new" revision news at E3.

It this roughly when LAIR comes out?

I'm hoping for a redesign from the 360. I wonder how much sales will spark for the PS3 at a price point it's already been available at ...

what on earth? investment in the toy is more than schoolwork? study hard, play harder? no wonder america relies on immigrants for their high-tech dominance.

You know a leaked ad from circut city could just be a sale to unload excessive stock there and other companies will have to match it. With 5 free movies the price comes to 399 comparitively.

That said this being the week of E3 it could very well be a true price cut which woudl spur sales a little bit.
