i thought microsoft was focusing on profitability...and if this is true,why didnt they announce the 60 gig at a price of 299 at E3? it would have benefited them more.

OK price for Arcade and Pro 60 GB, but $399 is still too expensive for Elite. I mean $100 extra for a bit more hard drive space? Elite should be $349.

Unless you are a novice in the game market of totally naive, you have no reason to be upset. Consoles traditionally cut their prices on an almost annual basis - Microsoft has actually bucked the trend by offering only one moderate drop over the consoles first 3 years. I never wanted to pay$400 for the console, and planned on buying a 360 last year when they dropped the price. When the cut turned out to be miniscule, I waited longer. Patience pays.

Or maybe they are phasing out 1 or 2 of the SKU's?

Sony was focuing on profitability, which is why they announced no price drop for the rest of the year.

I suspect MS is more interested in grabbing market share, to improve their position for the next gen.

A for announcing at E3, MS needed to clear out the 20G first. Who would buy a $299 20G system when they could buy a $299 60G  a few weeks later? If this rumored cut is true, MS won't announce it until the 20G are almost entirely cleared out.
