Forums - General Discussion - The Lucid Dreaming Thread

For those who don't know what Lucid Dreaming is I'll explain what it is:

A lucid dream is a dream in which the person is aware that he or she is dreaming while the dream is in progress. When the dreamer is lucid, he or she can actively participate in the dream environment without any of the inhibitions or limitations that otherwise would feel natural to persons who incorrectly believe they are in the "real" waking world. Lucid dreams can be extremely real and vivid depending on a person's level of self-awareness during the lucid dream.

It's really fun I was only able to do this 2 or 3 times, I jumped off a barn then before I hit the ground I started flying so I flew around the air and then I got into a formula 1 race car and raced some guy on a motorcycle down a road, and then (this is when I didn't have a PS3) I imagined I had a PS3 and I was playing some games that looked really confusing.

So anyway just wanted to know if anyone is familiar with this, and if so what do you do in your dreams (besides the obvious, you know what I mean)

And for those who like to try and have a Lucid Dream just go here: http://www.wikihow.com/Lucid-Dream anyone can do it

Edit: Also could you guys give out some tips to get into the Lucid Dream state or what to do when you realize your dreaming

I'm familiar with Lucid dreams, I studied them in year 12 psychology (final year of high school).

For me, almost all dreams are Lucid, because for some reason, after studying psychology and understanding how dreams can be manipulated or what effects what's in them, I rarely have nightmares anymore (last one was at least a year ago) and can change any aspect of my dream.

Anyway, Lucid dreams for me (without going into specific details) are usually inconsistent, as in I will start dreaming about a particular scene and person and then suddenly (obviously no idea what time frame this is in because I'm asleep) skip to a sequence that goes on from the previous one but is in a different area and with a different person.

It's not like it's a movie where the scene changes from character to character, it's the exact same situation but it's like the person replaced the original person and scene replaced scene.

Usually the scene is so obviously fake (like I once dreamed that I played for Brazil in the World cup alongside ronaldo and roberto carlos) and other times not so much (I'm still in high school living out a day in my life). But for the latter times, I always do something entirely impossible to, I guess show myself it is a dream.

But if you want specifics, after breaking up with my gf at the time, I had a dream (non-lucid I would say) where I thought I was with another girl. I woke up the next morning and fell back asleep in the hopes of, I guess, replaying that dream (it was a rough patch in my life, cut me some slack :D ), instead that dream continued on.

Really fun? They are the best thing ever.

My days are full and i can't sleep well most nights, so i'm not being able to focus on lucid dreaming, but i can't wait to go back to my normal schedule and get back to dreaming.

Everybody should try it, really.

I either can't remember my dreams, or I don't have dreams so I rarely have the chance to even have a Lucid one.

I can barely sleep and I rarely have dreams, and when I have them, I die very quickly :(

Everyone dreams every night, it's just you remember some dreams more then others

I can't say I remember many of my dreams at all.

I have them all the time. Maybe a few times a week. I've escaped a train to hell (why a train? I don't know. Ask Satan), kept a grizzly bear out of my house, won so much money, and been shot more times than I can count. I've also seen a lot of loved ones die. It's amazing how long these dreams are, considering how little I sleep. I also experience deja vu a lot, too.

I've been more or less immune to nightmares since age 12 thanks to my basically force-teaching myself to lucid dream in order to avoid them. Pretty damned impressive given that I neither knew it was possible nor even knew where to begin. I also learned how to control dreams without going into fully lucid dreaming, which makes for some pretty interesting experiences.

It's been rare for me to not have control over my dreams since then (only on rare occasions when I'm overly stressed do I have trouble with controlling them, in fact), though it is still fairly uncommon for me to go into full-fledged "awake yet asleep" lucid dreaming. That still only happens when I put an effort into it. Though when I do, I really am awake yet asleep: fully aware, fully in control, everything looks and feels real, yet I also know I'm dreaming too. It's easy to mistake the former for the latter when you've never experienced the latter, but once you do experience the latter, you'll never mix the two types up again.

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

I've flown and done the obvious(you know) in lucid dreams. Those were lucid dreams that I could enjoy. Normally when I become aware of the fact that I am dreaming, it's when I'm having a nightmare(death, murder, etc). I'm so relieved that I am only dreaming the nightmare, I "steer" the dream another direction and fall back into a less aware sleep, forgetting the rest of the dream.

Now on a very rare occasion I do get a lucid dream that doesn't involve being scared to death. Those are really, really fun. The feeling of flying was amazing, and this is coming from someone who is scared of heights. My lucid dream allowed me to bypass my fear of heights, and soar through the skies like a bird. Sweet:)
