Forums - Microsoft Discussion - FFXIII for X360 how many discs will it need?

Ooh! Ooh! 7 Discs like Phantasmagoria...

I had that game for the Mac back in the day and I would get a error when trying to switch to the second disc... Sad I never got to play past the first disc due to this error..

I'm going to say 1-3 discs.

I don't have any proper facts or reasoning, but neither do any of you.

Lost odyssey was 4 discs, blue Dragon was 3, Eternal Sonata had 1 and it was arguably better than both of them.

I'm saying 1-3 because of the whole install thing (me thinks FFXIII was the biggest factor that caused this shift by MS), it's a little too coincidental that they announced this shortly after FFXIII was announced. Question now is, how big's the install going to be, alot of people sitting with 20gb inserted into their consoles, and from memory there was about 17 or 18 gb's left after all of 360's own wares. I wonder how S-E will combat this.

probably 2
or they might do somthing with the hard drive and make it only on 1 disk

tag:"reviews only matter for the real hardcore gamer"

FF XIII will be on 1 Blu- Ray disc on the PS3. FF XIII on PS3 will have 7.1 surround sound and will be the superior version of the game. X360 FF XIII will be gimped so it can make it on the 6 discs.

PS3 FF XIII = 1 Blu-Ray disc Versus X360 FF XIII = 6 or 8 DVD Game discs.

The choice is totally up to you the gamer to decide and I will not force you in anyway.

I actually do force people on many other gaming forums to get FF XIII for the PS3. I care about people getting value for money and the best gaming experience is on the PS3 with FF XIII.

Here is my real answer. This is Square-Enix we are talking about. If they know that they have one BluRay to fit it on they may actually end up making a game that is bigger than 50gigs (Due to FMVs). So the game may end up on 2 BluRays.

I know this is unlikely but it would not surprise me. This company has never been known to keep the size of their games small. So depending on the size of the game will depend on how many discs on both systems.

For the 360 I wouldn't be surprised if the game engine was a required install so that Square does not need to duplicate the data on all of the discs.

f they want the SAME experience as the PS3 version, and IF the PS3 version fills up the full 50 gigs, realistically I'd say 8 disc's.

The 360 DRM allows about 7 gig per disc, and on multi-disc games you need to have the game's engine on each disc, I'll assume that takes up about a gig of space, giving around 6 gigs of data per disc. 50/6 leaves room for 8 discs. That's if they want the same quality audio, same resolution FMV, and IF SE takes up the full 50 gigs.

There also has to be a lot of repeated data, but that could be overcome by adding an HDD install

You just the nail on the head.  X360 will allow you put your games on the HDD.  Chances are thats how SE will get around size compatiblty problem with X360 and PS3.

(PS3 fanboy jab coming)

Welcome to the long big install club 360 FF fans.  I was told to make sandwhiches while games installs.  Get ready to bake a cake during your install time.  If you have a HDD...

I'm just saying...

2 disks. 8 disks wold be way too much

It will require 1 disk for those people who download and install the whole game on their Xbox 360 Pro 60gb/Elite.

For those that don't it will be between 3-5 disks usings LO as a guide.

Who says that SE will give them that option? I am guessing right now that SE is in full control in what is happening with its game.  And someting tells me now they are going to require a HDD to be able to play their game. And Microsoft won't care at this point because they will blame it on SE and sell HDD to people who bought the arcade version.

And Microsoft still comes out looking like the good guys for bring FF13 to the X360.

I'm just saying...
