Actually many would argue that DQ is bigger. Personally even if the choice was between DQ and FF, I still would personally choose FF however.

Is this a joke thread because what kind of question is that. It's like asking would you rather choose between a Ferrari or a Honda. Be serious bro, Final Fantasy is the cream of the crop and Star Ocean has barely made a dent in its genre. No disrespect.

Final Fantasy XIII is the obvious choice. Star Ocean is still a 'big' JRPG series like Tales, Disgaea, and Shin Megami Tensei are 'big' JRPG series. They don't reach FF-level sales numbers but they are still very well-known among hardcore JRPG fans who happen to be very vocal.

DQ is ARGUABLY bigger only in Japan, in the rest of the world it is unanimous that FF is bigger...

Now, Star Ocean doesn't come close to these two... FF franchise is the 4th (behind Mario, Pokemon and The Sims) Dragon Quest is 16th (but in RPGs is 3rd behind FF and The Legend of Zelda), and Star Ocean is not even in the Top 100...

Zelda is not a jrpg, but you are right about Dq being the third since pokemon is the first.
