Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Rock Band 2 timed exclusive for xbox360

I seem to recall Harmonix claiming that they would never need to release a Rockband 2 and that all future song releases would be coming in the form of DLC. I knew this was a lie from the begining and was only marketing spin to get people to pay the $170.

I still hate them for fucking up the Wii version so bad. It would not have been hard to make it from the ground up instead of porting it. What makes me more mad is that they tried to blame their laziness on Activision. If they had used the wii-remote standard all instruments would be compatible with GH4 (except maybe the drums) something they also claimed they wanted to see happen.

What a bunch of lying assholes. As a result I'll never buy one of their games.

Ok, can someone explain how long this exclusive deal is for the X360?

And why is there already a RB2 coming out? For me it feels it was just released (in Europe) and people just started to download songs.

Also, what's so special about Guitar Heor World Tour that it will own Rock Band 1/2?

Their basically ripping off Rock Band by adding Drums and Mic, and possibly improving on it by adding the ability to make your own songs, and some new gimmicks on the instruments. Combined with their already established install base on pretty much every viable platform they're pretty much set-up to crush RB2 sales wise at least.

Why u people dont get both RB 2 & GH 4 ?? its better.

It's a shame we'll all be playing Guitar Hero: World Tour this year.

Cheers to MS for buying exclusivity to a game no one will be playing.

Agreed. Semi-Smart move for MS. Bad move For EA, Harmonix, ect.

Way to piss of half of your possible fanbase.

PS3 owners are/were mostly hardcore PS2 owners who liked Harmonix for "creating" the series. PS2 Fans were actually still buying the game, and some people were probably buying the Wii version of the game despite obvious gimping.

Harmonix can go ahead and keep digging its own grave now, because that's what it's doing.

DUDE, For the last time, THEY'RE NOT RIPPING OFF. Harmonix didn't even really "Make" Guitar Hero.

Edit: Backing info from one of my earlier posts:

Well, the people that made Guitar Hero to begin with (Harmonix) basically did what Activision did. Harmonix bought the license to "GuitarFreaks" by Konami, added 2 frets, and just made it a console version. Guitar Hero: World Tour will be better. Much better, even better than Rock Band 2. I'm convinced. Also, Rackband is waaaaaaay to easy, and RB 2 will probably be just as easy. And also, RedOctane has been developing "Drum Hero" since before Guitar Hero III. They just combined the project with Guitar Hero 4. They are not "ripping off". Adding instruments is the next logical step.

DMeisterJ - Exactly why would someone need GH4, when they'll have RB with 300+ songs to GH4's <100?

Okay, RockBand will have more songs.  It's a damn shame you won't be able to make your own songs like Guitar Herio: World Tour though.

I'm not saying it's a bad move.  It's fine.  But in a world where there will be a competing, and by current accounts, better game coming out eight weeks after it launches, PS3 owners may just buy GH: WT instead of buying RB.  Especially with the notion of feeling left out because 700k people did buy it on PS3, they may just not bother at all with RB this year.

People would need GH4 because of the insane amount of customization options for your instruments, creating your own music, downloading peoples music (for what I assume free).  We're talking about hundreds of thousands of people who will be buying this game, and lets say that every person that buys the game only makes one song.  We're talking at least two or three million songs available for purchase.

So stickball.  Exactly why would someone need RockBand when they'll have Guitar Hero: Wrold tour with MILLIONS of songs to Rock Bands 300?

This sucks. At least they said later this year and not next year.

And to all those saying "GH4 is better anyways". Not even close to the truth. RB was much better than GH3 and RB2 will continue to be better. GH3 was at least decent because it was just Neversoft copying the preexisting formula and throwing their name on it.

Once they start trying to add new features and innovate it'll be apparent how they have no business making a rhythm game whereas Harmonix is the reason the genre has skyrocketed recently. They're actual musicians whereas with Neversoft it's just a bunch of game programmers whose experience is pretty much the Tony Hawk series. And the decline in THPS shows where GH is headed in the future. I'd go so far as to say that if they hadn't licensed Aerosmith exclusively and Metallica for their own game then they'd be irrelevant by the time RB3 came out. As it is fans of the exclusive bands have no choice but to play the GH games so they'll keep selling.

Because the numbers you just randomly threw out there has nothing to do with a normal real life situation. You count all of the DLC included in RB without including any of the DLC for GH4 while both sequels are said to be backwards compatible with their predecessors DLC. Further you assume most people are willing to pay enough money to take the 55ish base song list from RB and pay for the game roughly twice over again to get every song. Random fanboy comments thrown out by mods makes me smile =)

Thats fine by me. I decided from the start that since MTV is involved with Rock Band, that I would never ever buy it. MTV wants a game based on the rock genre, but refuse to play any MUSIC VIDEOS that are from the rock genre. All they show are hip hop and pop videos. Screw MTV for crapping on rock music and then trying to milk it via videogames.

Sorry, MTV is one of my top hated companies, right after the guys making the atom smasher in france.

The way I think of it is that PS3 owners get a chance to not have to spend money on a game less than a year after they bought the other one. PS3 owners get a chance to enjoy the original RB instead of having to upgrade.
Are the PS3 owners going to get the same DLC that RB2 gets because they said its going to work with both games on the 360?
