Oh, the arrogance and conceit of those who refuse to realize that the Wii in fact represents the direction of the future and the X360 and PS3 are stuck in a past with inaccessible and overly complex controls which were gradually driving gamers and potential gamers away and shrinking the market.

If that's the future, then I don't want to be a part of it. The last thing I need is thousands of shovelware games covering the market. And this topic is about US sales of this generation, so let's keep it that way.

That already happened with the PS2, and the PS1, and the SNES/Genesis, and the NES, and the Atari 2600, and pretty much all the handheld systems. Shovelware isn't growing because of the Wii. It was just thrown up front to the Wii by developers with their pants down.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

It's pretty early into this generation, and the high prices of new consoles (particularly the PS3) have slowed adoption - just look at how the PS2 still manages to outsell both of them. What has sold so far is probably not even 10% of what the top console will sell by the end.

I think that most level headed people will agree that as the PS3 gets cheaper and their traditional linup of games afall into place their sales will increase. The problem is people seem to think that the other consoles will remain at their current sales pace throughout this generation. This to me is not a certianty. Sure it can happen, but to keep the pace they cannot siton their existing libraries. Colors for the Wii are nice but they will not be enough of a selling point to amintain sales. I could easily see a situation where this time next year the PS3 is selling 300k a week WW and the other two only selling 125-150 a month. I also could see a bigger gap in 2010 and 11. I am not saying this will happen, but I am saying it is a fairly reasonable possibility. I just think fanobuism is jumping the gun WAYYYYY too early. We have got a long road to go yet and a 15 mil lead is large but not Undoable. Keep i mind that the PS2 outsold the competition by 100mil. It's still to early to call.

Easily seeing the Wiis demise is a delusion.

Tease.

From the looks of it we've finally moved on from the denial stage to anger...

Maybe this time we'll take a little less time moving onto the next stage. 77 weeks of anger just doesn't sound very fun to me...

Onward to bargaining!

Edit: and from the looks of things I'm even seeing some bargaining already! This is why I love you guys so much.

@Squillium
Demise? I don't think I mentioned Demise at all. Honestly though is it dillusional to think it's sales could drop off as we head into next year? I love my Wii, and this year (and last) there was every reason for it to sell well. It has a much lower price. It has launched all of it's big name franchises of the past honestly it would be a huge dissapoint ment to me if it wasn't selling this welll right now. With that said what reasons do we KNOW rtght now that would make us think it will sell this well (or even close) in a year? As I said earlier you need to constantly feed the beast throughout a generation with big titles to come out on top. You are kidding yourself if you think this is written in stone yet.

It also sold 20 million before CG and Xbox even hit store shelves.  Basically they were dead on arrival to publishers and the industry.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

oh I agree to a point viper, but if Sony hadn't continued to punchout the hit titles like they did it might have been much closer. What I am saying is if Ninty just sits on their normal big hitters they always release early in generations (Mario and such) and dont keep pushing out titles this thing could get real interesting before it's over. Sony is known for mashing out big hit after big hit through a generation and Ninty not as much. As I said i am not saying it will happen i am saying this could happen. Only time will tell, and thats why I am saying it's too early too start calling this. If some of you are willing to take the risk and have your words possibly thrown back at you at a later date, feel free. I personally will wait and see.

Actually by gens end it will be

Wii >>> PS3 > 360

The number of ">" shows by how much

Wii will crush both PS360 and PS3 will edge out the 360

@SWA_JM

Ok, you are combining Sony and 3rd parties against just Nintendo here.

With nearly a 2 year development head start, a 20 million unit head start and a preceding 100 million unit selling console. What do you think 3rd parties were going to do?

Nintendo and MS had no chance in hell at capturing any respective market share with all things considering.

The difference this time is MS is giving Sony a far bigger fight on the HD front and Nintendo has a much larger 3rd party support than GC ever had and it's growing.

There is some validity to the wait and see philosophy but there is also writing already on the walls and it's saying this gen is not a repeat of last gen.
