Curious about this Xenoblade port,

Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition looks unreal. Also, portable Bioshock. I'm totally in ^^

Pokémon DLC looks just as I thought: 2-3 hours of gameplay with zero replay value besides whathever each one might spend catching Pokémon on the new chunk of Wild Area. Pretty lame...

Are the animations in bravely default sped up or is that how it plays in the actual demo?

In the Bravely Default games, you could speed up the battle speed.

I still haven't played the demo, but I'm guessing that's the case.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

I don't think it is. I see the exact same Wii game, scene by scene. The character movements, the shots, the lines, the gameplay... it's like a side by side copy. With better visuals, music and a revamped interface. It has not been remade. They just... worked over the original. Like painting a room with another color and puting some posters. The room hasn't been remade. Improved. But it's the same room.

It's an amazing remastering work. But not a remake.

I was fairly satisfied. Might buy the Bioshock games again but I'm happy with Xenoblade. Then again, I was getting that anyway.

Well it doesn't really matter whethere you think it is or not I suppose, cause it is really a remake.

And they actually remade everything:

I'm most likely going to grab the Bioshock Collection, Trials of Mana and Bravely Default II. I am also kind of curious about Shinsekai: Into the depths and Panzer Dragoon Remake.

You own video is showing how both games are essentially the same. But... whathever. I have discussed this topic too many times. Remaster VS Remake...

No, it is definitely a remake in every sense of the word.  Remasters basically add HD textures, resolution bumps, new features, and stuff like that when porting a game from one device to another.  Xenoblade however is using completely different assets to build (or remake) the same game from scratch.  It is a much larger undertaking than any remaster out there, and certainly not a port of any kind.

You are probably comparing it to REmake 2 or FFVII Remake, which ironically are not really "remakes" at all.  They are actually reimaginings of the games altogether.  Everything from the assets, gameplay, story progression, and features had been changed.  Unlike Xenoblade Remake, which is the same game made with new assets from the ground up, these games are not the same as the original.  They tell reimaginings of the same story, but the game itself is different.

Other examples of actual remakes are Ocarina of Time 3D, Majora's Mask 3D, Medievil on PS4, Spyro, and Crash.  REmake 2 and FFVII fall into a completely different category.

You said it's a port, when you see the video, you can clearly tell it's basically the same game entirely redrawn from the scratch. So not a port. Case closed.
