Still on my backlog, played the first level and a bit of the second one when I got it, the camera while it has issues, I find it in the tolerable range still. The atmosphere itself is curious, feels more toned for a spooky adventure, while the original games were more about style and funkyness than scary, like a very retro crazy action game. In that sense I find stuff like the motorcycle skeletons more in line with Castlevania than anything else.

The opening track is fantastic tho, my favorite rendition of Bloodlines.

Castlevania 64 has an amazing story, i enjoyed it alot. The Game did suffer gameplay issues like a hideous camera and clunky controls. Overall a great experience for the lore.
I say the reviews are justified.

I agree. I think the atmosphere has aged well, to be honest the first Dark Souls gave me some of the same vibes. Back in 1999 however the game was top notch in that department. I think the story line is dark and depressive at times, I don't think people praise the story line enough these days.

I agree. The story line has been IMO underrated, most people seem to ignore the game when talking the Castlevania series up, and I think Castlevania 64 if anything gave us one of the better stories in the franchise.

Definitely underrated. Had it not been for SotN (and how amazing that was), history would have been kinder to Castlevania 64.
