Xbxo Scarlett will be backwards compatible with all Xbox One games, as well as the current Xbox 360 and OG Xbox backwards compatible games on the Xbox One. Current accessories will also work on the Scarlett. Source.

From what little we know about PS5 and Scarlett both companies are continuing what they have been doing and make them more powerful and even closer to a PC.

But its "new" on the playstation side.
While Xbox One already had selected xbox & xbox 360 titles for it.
With the PS5 its supposedly all titles, and its a first time for such.

It absolutely isn't "new" for Playstation. The short memories of people these days. If anything it's the other way around.

PS3 launched with nearly full BC while the 360 had very limited BC at launch. It wasn't until later in the gen that Sony dropped BC to cut the cost of the consoles. It definitely isn't the "first time for such." I was able to play all my PS1 and PS2 discs on my OG PS3.

PS5 has to be the most unexciting console on the planet.

A lot of gamers really don't give a rat's ass about a piece of hardware being "exciting."  What they want is a platform where the design choices are all about allowing the games to shine as much as possible.  History has hammered that point home on many occasions.

I've got to admit, I'm more than a bit perplexed that anyone would struggle with Sony's decision on this.  The PS4 was a massive success, therefore ... they should change the control scheme that millions of their customers have grown up with and prefer? ... why?

Rather, there is absolutely zero reason they should switch.  This was a no-brainer.

The thing is your hands are not when you play with a DS4. My hands, in the other hand, are symmetrically positioned on my controller, thanks to my asymmetrical joysticks. It's called "ergonomics"

Seems to be taking cues from the competition when it comes to shape in the hand, which I'm fine with so long as they don't lose what worked with past dualshocks.

Fight me, asymmetrical mutants.

Maybe because tens of millions of ppl actually prefer it.

Prefer or have a choice i think is a bigger question.

I just want a 25 hour battery life and not the 5 min DS4 has. Let me turn off the stupid light.

Not being able to turn off the light is pretty stupid. Would be nice for sure.

So will we be recharging the controller every 3-4 hours like the PS4 one?

My Pro-controller for my Switch last for atleast 25-30 hours

I guess you're unlucky? Or I'm lucky? I get 8-9 hours consistently. I know 8 is supposed to be the upper limit, but I'm pretty sure I exceed that fairly routinely. Do you have the light set to dim?

Well, DS, with its symmetrical joysticks, is the number one selling controller, so obviously there are tens of millions of people who prefer symmetrical sticks.

Looking at the pic, the DS5's touchpad is slightly raised above the controller. I'm guessing the top light bar is built into this part. I mean, there has to be one of it's going to be able to play all PS4/PSVR games. It's probably just smaller.

i don't deny there are other reasons.

But the NPD for October shows the new purple PS4 DS being the top money maker for accessories. The black DS 4 is the best selling accessory of 2019. DS4 topping accessories list for NPD has been a common occurrence. Asymmetrical controllers for the PS4 exist (of different price ranges too) but that doesn't seem to be deterring DS4 sales (in relation to only PS4 and also the competition).

Erm selling accessories to a top selling product isnt that hard to achieve. If the PS4 was a hard sell and still sold ton loads of controllers than i agree.
