Speaking of shitty monetization practices, do we know yet if we will be able to transfer Mew from Pokemon Bank to Pokemon Home to Sword/Shield, or do you literally have to buy a Pokeball Plus to get Mew in Sw/Sh like you did in Let's Go?

You should be able to transport a pokemon to home regardless of where it comes from, but it can only be transfered to Sw/Sh if its in the game. Since Mew is in, that mean if you have a mew in bank you should be able to put that in home then in gen 8.

I have a theory that Game Freak is being pushed into a corner after Pokemon Go made more money in a couple of years than all regular pokemon games combined. The Pokemon Co. sees mobile as the future and they are investing heavilly in mobile stuff, thus leaving GF in a weak position. So they are going to monetize this game way more than before.

The signs are there already: Mainline pokemon is an annual franchise since Sun/Moon (SM in 2016, USUM in 2017, Let's Go P/E in 2018, Sw/Sh in 2019), so they barely have time to do anything big anymore and they recycle more and more stuff from previous games, with USUM being a practical carbon copy of the game released a year before. Masuda accusing of today's mobile gamers of having little attention spams and thus not bothering to add most extra features. Sending your old pokemon to newer versions is now a paid privilege, first with Poke Bank and now with Pokemon Home...

This is going to go a lot worse before it gets better: if the game succeeds, the cuts will continue, and may even increase. If the game fails, the people at Pokemon Co. will increase their investment in mobile at the cost of traditional games. Either way, dark times are ahead. I'm not sure what Nintendo can do to preserve the quality of one of their biggest hardware sellers, if they can (or want) at all...

I just hope they don't dare to put the cut pokemons under a paid wall. That would be EA levels of greed.

Why? Why would that be a bad thing? Why are you entitled to content from past games? You wouldn't go into a game like Mariokart and say "Harumph, I hope they don't charge me to play my old tracks in this game" would you? No, becuase that'd be stupid. If they're remaking content for the new game, it has value and thus it would make sense to charge for it.

I'm gonna appropriate the term "Ok Boomer" to "Ok Gamer" to the same intended effect.

Cutting off content previously available and monetizing it as an extra is a practise that has been universally despised due to how it devalues any product. If I'm already paying the usual price for a game, it would be reasonable to assume noone wants to pay extra to get the same things as the last time. It would also start a very dangerous slippery slope, as to what old content can be cut off and monetized next. Already the transfer pokemon option has been monetized through a yearly service, so it's not like there's no precedent. And yes, I would like it if the next Mario Kart didn't charge me "extra" for old content. It is not stupid, it is content with value that people liked and expected put on a ransom.

And yes, I'm not entitled to anything. But they are also not entitled to my money, so I won't support it.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Spoiler!
From what I've read, the game's post-game is dry

I have no issues with people not liking Pokemon S/S, personally I think the game looks amazing.  The point is those who aren't interested in Pokemon S/S should move along and stop derailing every Pokemon S/S discussion.  We get it, move along.  See Death Stranding thread, specifically Don's post for additional details.

They won't get this. They think doing the same thing in every thread fosters good discussion  it's the same complainers like move tf on already.

How can we get what you don't explain? Please tell us how complaining about complainers is a better discussion. We need to know how people complaining has more to do with the game than discussions about the game itself. Also gotta know the benefits of instigating a group of upset people and how this outweighs the fact that criticism can lead to improvement.

Not sure if this has already been posted but it seems that the employee morale at Gamefreak is at an all time low

https://nintendosoup.com/waypoint-employee-morale-at-game-freak-is-at-an-all-time-low/

That's good, shows that at least the lower rank employees do still have artistic integrity. They're not happy with no longer putting out good games even while knowing they still make a ton of money. Although, perhaps most of the money actually goes to top heads at Game Freak and Pokemon Co.

Hire more staff, morale goes up because the workload is less strenuous and they're delivering a better product that won't have backlash.

CD Projekt Red
Employees - 686
Game Sales (Since 2007) - 40 Million

Game Freak
Employees - 143
Game Sales (Since 2007) - Over 130 Million

So they have over triple the game sales but employ less than a quarter the amount of people. Where is all this money going? Why don't they spend this money to expand and deliver better and more ambitious games?
