Wow....3'2M shipped this quarter and better software sales than last year. I remember saying at the beginning of the year that i expected a great Feb-May performance due to software lineup. VGC numbers seemed to prove me wrong until now but in the end it's what it happened.

But the biggest milestone and the one that is going to be difficult to surpass by any other console is the "Fastest console to reach 100M shipped". Faster than Wii and PS2....., without any official and definitve price cuts in recent years.....That's super impressive. This proves too that US and JP are less and less relevant for Sony as times goes on. Playstation brand has to be muuuuuuuuuch more powerful than the competition eveywhere else.

And there's still people doubting Sony and the future of the Playstation brand.......

Well in my country its by far more popular than the other two, we even use the word "Play" instead of video games.

In Spain is very similar..., we use here "la plei (play)" for everything related to consoles.

PS4 after adjustments is the best selling console of 2019 so far, which is crazy for a system that is in its 6th year.
Sure switch will end up as the best selling console of 2019 by the end of the year, but it's still amazing that PS4 managed to stay ahead for the 1st half of 2019.

Yes, adjustments mean that the current 2019 sales (as of July 13th) are:

PS4 - 6,456,010

Switch - 6,323,399

And you're also right that Switch will end up the best selling console of 2019. By quite a large margin I imagine.

It's possible the adjustments are too much though. I might have aimed for 2.5m on shelves rather than 2.3m.

According to this very site, the sellthrough for both last year in this same period of the year was (as of July 14th 2018):

PS4 - 7,43M

Switch - 5,29M

So, PS4 is 13% down and Switch is 19% up.

If PS4 mantains this rate until the end of the year it should be around 15'6M sold in 2019. Maybe around 15M by the end of the year then....

If Switch mantains this rate it will be 19'4M sold in 2019. But this will meant Nov+Dec would be 19% higher too, and i don't expect that (i expect a flat holiday season compared to last year), so probably will be more around 18'5-19'0M by the end of the year.

In the end, it seems numbers are going to be what Sony and Nintendo expect for the year....

Nearly 1 million in PS4 adjustments. Holy hell.

Vita 16.13M is 74.47M away from the average

Virtua Boy 0.77M is 61.53M away from the average

Using numerical difference instead of proportional difference is illogical.

By that logic a console that sold 95m compared to an average of 100m would be a bigger anomaly than a console selling 0.1m compared to an average of 5m.

Whereas selling just 0.1m compared to your usual 5m is clearly an anomaly, while selling 95m compared to your average of 100m is basically normal.

As illogical as removing Virtua Boy because it was a dud.

Going back through some threads, you'd be surprised.

I remember "won't hit 100 million" posts from as recently as fall 2017. Even who made them.

We all make mistakes though!

We had some saying it wouldn't reach 100M between end of 2018 and this year when it crossed 95M shipped. Not sure if he was trolling or what not.

It's called removing an anomaly/outlier from a data set. lol.

Dude, it's basic statistics.

Sony deserves it. They've done a good job with the PS4 this gen.
