Forums - Website Topics - VG Chartz needs a Wikipedia entry! Help us create one!

Hey so I think we should make a Wikipedia entry for VGChartz.  Wikipedia is a very well known source of information and knowledge.  Since Wikipedia is a community project for the most part, I think we should all contribute.

Editing a Wikipedia entry is not as simple as you may think.  it requires original material, references, etc. Anyway, if anyone knows how to edit articles well, please go to town.  Right now, the entry has been picked up by one f the bots for copying a lot of the Welcome message from the website.  Considering the message is from the website, its not really stealing (but the Wiki bot doesnt know that!)  Anyway, help make the entry helpful!

PS: ioi or TheSource, feel free to post in here and tell us what you want in there and what you don't.  If you guys change it to your liking, just tell us here to stop changing it around.

Thanks guys! With the help of you all, we can spread the word of VG Chartz even more!

xD Apparently I praised the website too much that the bots see it as more of an advertisement than an encyclopedic entry. =\ Right now it is on a track towards speedy deletion. Im sure there is a way around this =[

EDIT:  Change the entry quickly! xD  Im assuming if they delete this we can just create a better entry and create the article again.  So no worries.

Yeah, you have to be pretty neutral or else Wikipedia will own you.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Well if it is any consolation, looks like NeoGAF has also been tagged as too much of an advertisement. Who knows. Lets help fix it though (VGC, not GAF)

By constantly adjusting sell-through data and adopting a multifaceted approach, "we" can present information that is as unbiased, accurate and as complete as possible.

With a growing team of analysts, over ten years of experience and with over twenty years of historical data at "our" disposal,

WHO IS "WE" and "OUR"??!?!?

"We" are the only provider anywhere in the world of weekly American sales charts and are expanding our data collection and coverage all the time.

CUT IT WITH THE WE'S and OUR'S !!!!!!!!!!

My contribution was deleted >.>

I'll guess I'll just go help someone who appreciates it!

Here is what I changed the methodology section to:

VGChartz collects a percentage of sales numbers from retailers in North America, Japan, Europe, and the other major video game markets to estimate the overall sales of each console. The retailer sample sizes are small compared to professional tracking services such as NPD, but they often fall within reasonable margins of error. The NPD has often criticized VGChartz for its data collecting methods.[1]

You have to not have any "we's" or say just about anything positive about VGChartz unless it is corroborated by actual information. You have to be very neutral.

Alright, this is what I changed the rest to:

VGChartz is a video game internet discussion forum mainly used to track the sale of video games. VG Chartz collects and makes projections of sell-through data from retailers for a variety of different markets - Japan, US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and many other smaller world markets. VG Chartz verifies the accuracy of sell-through data by comparing with manufacturer production and shipment data and also by comparing with competing sell-through services, if available.

Several large video-game related websites have cited VG Chartz' as an accurately representative measure of the market, including Kotaku.[1]

VG Chartz also has a large forum community with several different sections, including a Sales forum, a general gaming forum, and forums for the major console manufacturers, Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft. It also includes an Off Topic forum.

You just have to not be stupid about editing the article. This is an encyclopedia, not a way to explicitly promote the website.

Aye, you don't really speak of the subject as yourself or a spokesperson("we", "our"). Approach it more like a reporter delivering information.
