Yeah, they're totally different from Cold Steel and they're pretty damn good too. 

Ys Chronicles is a remake of the first 2 Ys games which are very classic, well made action rpgs. They're the best remakes of Ys 1 and 2, you can switch between 3 different styles of soundtracks (of which, ys 1 and 2 has some of the most badass falcolm music ever). And they're nothing like the Ys game that was on the genesis. Think traditional 2D Zelda, but faster. It has all your jrpg tropes (i.e. towns, villages, magic) and the bosses are very tactical for an action RPG. I'm probably rambling here but these games are some of my favorites. They're don't feature 3D graphics but the pixel art is well done. You don't have any extra party members like Ys VII, but it has its own charm I think. In short...buy it!

Ah I see. Yeah I'll add that to my wishlist then. Edit: Just bought it via Amazon. 

While I'm here, does anybody know how to connect the PSP to the internet via USB or something similar? The PSP's Wifi is completely outdated now, and just doesn't work with modern routers. 

Wait, what 3 games are those? I updated my wishlist with a few of the Legend of Heroes games. Am I missing any? 

PSP was the media player on the go till smart phones took over Great little system. Personally I liked the VITA more. But worth the purchase none the less. let us know what you think so far after you play with it a while.

Reminiscing, there was a cool feature that got introduced towards the end of the PSP's life that let us play multiplayer games online, even if the only supported local multiplayer. I got it to work zero times (the online community was dead, I guess) but the idea was cool.

They're part of the Gagharv Trilogy. They're somewhat infamous for their localization.

Hmmm. Reviews of those were really harsh back in 2005-2006. What are they like? Did you enjoy them? Why did they get so many low reviews? 

They're fairly low budget and handheld games in that era were graded on a curve. Lots of great PSP and DS games got much lower scores for simply being on that platform. I'd say that they are enjoyable, but I would only recommend them to fans of the series to play later on. They can provide some history and context, but they're objectively the worst that you can play in English.

I'm not so sure about the curve grading thing. I mean, GTA Chinatown Wars got about the same scores as Liberty City Stories. One was a 2D top down game, and the other was fully 3D. If the curved grading was a thing, I would imagine that the low budget Chinatown Wars would have gotten much lower scores on PSP. 

But anyway I'm about to finish reading a handful of reviews for them all. I'll post my thoughts. Sometimes older games get unfair reviews. You should see the reviews of GBA ports of SNES games like DKC, Contra 3. or Tales of Phantasia. 

Okay after reading a few reviews, they sound a lot like the Lunar games. Decently good for their time, but kind of generic, linear, and a little grindy. I've broken JRPGS up into four different eras. They are...

the 80's era (Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy III, Phantasy Star, Phantasy Star II) IMO games from this era just aren't enjoyable. They are insanely grindy, and basic. Enemies are recycled with pallete swaps. A very basic, and linear town-dungeon-town cycle is present. There's almost no room for freeform quests, or sidequests. 

the early 90's era (Phantasy Star IV, Super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy IV, Dragon Quest IV, Lunar I, Lunar II) These games are much like the previous era, but more polished. There's less grind, and maybe one or two sidequests to take on. 

the mid to late 90's era ( Chrono Trigger, Suikoden, Suikoden II, Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy 7-9, Chrono Cross, etc. ) These games are very open ended, with a lot of things to do outside of the main story. Characters can often be customized to a ridiculous point in battles. Secrets and extra bosses are scattered throughout these games. Some of these games toss the grind to the wayside, and present a much shorter, but cleaner game. 

and finally the post FF-X era, which pretty much entails everything after that. 

Some developers came into these eras much sooner or later than others. There's some overlap in the timeframes. So you can have a game like FF6 releasing alongside Lunar.

TL/DR: Anyway, I just didn't like the Lunar games, or Dragon Quest 4. These older Legend of Heroes games remind me of that. Also according to RPGFan there are serious translation issues.
