The Switch made a huge week and people be like "yeah PS4 is a beast"

Well yes, the PS4 is a beast, don't forget that it is entering its sixth year unlike the switch which is very young. So the most surprising of the two is the performance of the PS4.

Just remember that's only two days of Smash. Smash launched December 7th. Holiday sales don't usually pick up until the 2nd Week of December (besides Black Friday).

great sales for switch, but ps4 did well too

PS4 did very well. The bulk f the switchs lead is thanks entirely to japan where it outsold the PS4 by around 4:1.

It was a great week for both PS4 and Switch(Smash week), but as you said, most of the lead in the Global for Switch was due to Japan.

America numbers seem way off.

All insiders are pointing to Switch doing over double PS4 in December but somehow it's only up ~10% during Smash week? Doesnt add up.

The bulk of those december sales as will that of any holiday sales is not coming from smash being a sales driver but rather from the NS being a holiday gift item. Especially for kids, even if that gift is bought along with smash.

I expect to see this reflected next week and the week after that where NS will have around double the sales of everything else.

It's still way too close. Insiders are saying under 1m for PS4 and over 2m for NSW. That's under 200k/week for PS4 and over 400k/week for Switch.

These Switch numbers for NA are 404k so let's say ~360k for US, that seems feasible since like you said, the week or two before Christmas should rise but PS4 is at 361k for NA or ~330k for US so sales would need to plummet in the next two weeks which seems highly unlikely.

Edit: these numbers also put PS4 significantly up YoY in the US this week (2017-221k, 2018-300k+) which doesnt add up at all.

LOL, Smash-week and PS4 still, albeit marginally, sells more in Europe.

Yeah seems like Vgcharts are underestimating Switch

I think insiders are wrong about PS4 doing under a million, but Switch should still hit 2 million. 400k, 600k, 600k, 400k= 2 million.

Adjustments are still to take place. Only concrete numbers we have are out of Japan for the week. Yes some information from the UK, but no exact figures. As some have also pointed out this is only two days for Smash. PS4 and X1 are up slightly worldwide compared to last year looking at the figures. Switch is up massively thanks to Smash and only being the second holiday.

PS4 is up like ~50% YoY in USA

USA Week ending Dec 9, 2017-221,535

NA Week ending Dec 8, 2018-361,148 (I'm assuming ~330k for USA)

Seems like it should be adjusted down by 100k or more.

With that said, thanks for all the hard work you do for this site!

December is 5 months, not 4.

Last year PS4 sid 1.08m with Cyber Monday and $50 off Slim & Pro for 1 week each.

This year Cyber Monday was in November and they had no discounts on either PS4 model so under 1 million is very, very likely.

Could it be because Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was not released on the PS4?

No, because that wouldn't have any connection whatsoever with what I said and thus be pointless.

Anyway, people were doubting the Switch could sell 1 million per week by the end of the year, it seems like it's on track to do so :D

Actually 2.5mil is a possibility for switch seeing as how the biggest analysts are predicting it and those that have rarely been wrong. And I believe the under 1mil for PS4 because last year wasn't too hot either like maybe 1.2mil or even less for ps4
