This is what i'm trying to tell people, i have nothing against Switch, but that comparison is some PR bullshit of the worst quality because they know people know the numbers from the Wii at BF week 2008 being around 800k, but we don't know shit about what Wii did during next days after BF or even if they have stock left after such a success at BF the days before. We don't know and that's the problem, that Nintendo know that we won't know. And you have 2 options, keep knowing nothing, or believe the numbers could be similar to that 800k figure from 10 years ago in a different set of days....

Stop it.  They didn't compare it to just Wii but every console and portable they've ever sold.  That means DS and 3DS too.  And 3DS certainly existed during the modern Cyber Monday sales period.

Further, cut the crap on stock issues because the Switch is just as susceptible to being short on stock as they rest were.  You keep calling this spin but it's really starting to sound like you just don't like the good news and it's bothering the hell out of you so you're looking for any means possible to spin it yourself negatively.

If you're going to talk me like this again, this will be the last time i quote you.

Like wrote in other thread, it wouldn't be first time their PR is not most accurate.

What is very possible is that with "more than 8.2m" numbers gave us numbers until October with this "5 day period sales", so without other November numbers. And that would actually make sense, because it expected that Switch in that period sold around 800-900k (because thats more than Wii best week and perfectly fit with those "more than 8.2m" sold units).

Also, this one of latests Benji posts:

-I think estimating anywhere from 1.1 million - 1.5 million for Switch in November is realistic. I know that's a big range but given the PR (outside the weird LTD figure) it seem highly unlikely it's either below or above that figure
-Considering we have Switch doing a confirmed over 800k on BF week alone, yeah. Switch and PS4 are going to be very close come NPD in November. And likely unless Sony have something big planned for December Switch may end up the best selling hardware for the Year

This guy (quilrick or whatever) is now crossing the ban line, this is trolling i'm rigth?

yea man i'm crossing the ban line cause i choose to believe nintendo own numbers.

It is a normal good news for nintendo spinnig by the haters to be a negative one, 2008 all over again.

OK, sorry to all of you, it seems that my comments annoy some people, despite trying everything to do the opposite. I've been here since 2008 and i never have a problem with anybody but it's obvious that is my fault. You two are right and nobody should question your opinions in this forum because haters like me should be banned.

I'm done, believe what you want, is your right.

The thing is Thursday before Black Friday to the end of Cyber Monday been 5 days Is for sure a bigger sales period than the 800k that was done Sunday before to the Saturday after to the extent that the Sunday-Wednesday of the Wii tracking likely accounts for very little of the Wii's 800K, When you combine this along with knowing it's up 115% from the same 5 days in 2017 it already takes it above 800k for the same 5 day period. That you can't ignore.

Well, you can think that the sales are better in that period, or people like me think that were worse back in 2008, we can't know for sure. But i will buy your point. How do you explain then Switch selling 900k according to the total sales of Nintendo PR at 8'2 and the number of total sales from NPD leaks until November being 7'3M, if Switch, only in a week sold 800k??

I sincerely want to know. I will be glad to read a good explanation why Nintendo is giving a wrong number then.

Like you said earlier the NPD could be off by a few 100k's for end of October and it was actually  at 7.1-.7.2m which would add up to 1-1.1m by Cyber Monday and meet the 8.2m sales, The other is that Nintendo PR team lowballed it as "More than 8.2m" to protect themselves incase they give out a number that is a little more than it actually sold, The could of thought it was at 8.4m but actual numbers could be 8.36m and the "more than 8.2m" statement covers them to not giving out false sales numbers.

2008 Wii numbers
"For the Thanksgiving week, Wii sold an astonishing 800,000 units more than double what is sold in 2007. "

Considering the fact that PS4 and XB1 had wayyyy more sales, this is a very impressive feat. Switch is heading for a huge November and I can't imagine how huge the December will be.

No, no no and no. Nintendo PR doing their work misinforming people.....oggh. Thanksgiving week for Wii back in 2008 was Monday to Friday (black friday). This 115% record from last year is from Thursday to Cyber Monday and it could be 100k or 200k last year in that period, we don't really know. Yes, some big sales too, but not as big as Monday to Friday week for Black Friday. That comparison with 800k from Wii in 2008 is incorrect.

You do realise most of the sales happen on Black Friday day? I think it's quite comparable

I guess i prefer the first explanation. I don't believe Nintendo doesn't know sepecif numbers of what they sold. Between choosing to believe numbers from a leak in a forum coming from a secretive corporation, i prefer to choose what Nintendo says.

Yeah, i do, but the problem, like i said is that Nintendo knows the actual numbers but this way we can't make a direct comparison because they're not the exact same days, and shoping doesn't work exactly the same as 10 years ago, so there will be people like you that legimitely could think the comparison is fair and haters like me that will choose not to believe in them, because you know, we want another console to do better....XD. But honestly, what i meant to say, is that they could've been more clear and they choose not to, and that makes me question why.

Beside all of this, it seems PS4 and XBO are not that strong this holiday and when Nintendo gives holiday number sales for Switch, Pokemon and Smash Bros nobody will remember this PR because they're going to dominate in December.

Benji made a few posts about it on Era:

It sounds likely Switch was already over 1m by end of Cyber Monday and the 8.2m LTD isn't accurate. With 5 more days to track after that I think somewhere in the region of 1.2-1.5m Switch sales for November NPD is what we are looking at.

If you could put a link up that would be awesome.

Agreed probably a low end of 1.2m. Couple of hints:

  • Best ever week means it at least beat last year's launch and last year's Black Friday.
  • 100%+ increase over same period last year is absolutely massive. Switch sold something like 400k on BF last year so it ties up well with their statement on it outselling Wii's numbers same time period
Obviously Nintendo could've chosen the specific dates they wanted but as Black Friday is where most of the sales happen we can safely estimate it probably did 800k'sh during that time period.
All that taken into consideration, the Switch did 850k last November. Just adding Black Friday's numbers means it's around 1.25m which fits waht you're saying. Obviously it also depends on how many Switches Nintendo have shipped for stock but I think seeing as they want to push towards their end of year target they will be much less conservative and provide more than usual.

Would a 1.1m November really be an insanely good number? Maybe the success of this generation has warped my thinking, but that doesn't really impress me. 1m is likely the minimum bar for a American November for a console to be relevant.

They usually have price cuts associated with it. I think it could be this generation that has warped the perception. I remember when 700,000 was considered really good last generation. Given at the same time, this is going to be a generations that doesn't have 45 million selling console at the same time. So nothing makes sense!

(Not value price cut, but hard actual $299.99 going to $199.99 type deal.)

While it didn't have a actual price cut; it did have decent bundling, lots of advertising, and a big game launch + another big game coming very soon. Felt like 1m would be a low bar for it this month.

Nintendo consoles trend towards bigger December's than November's. This November is looking like a nice jump for the switch. But December is where we need to look for Nintendo, especially with there biggest game of the year coming.

That's fair too. How much more are you really expecting for December? Have to imagine that Smash will give it a nice boost for it. How much are you expecting?

This PR is weird, if I take it straightforward I just know that NS is at 8.2, subtract the previous NPD numbers we had and we can get what it sold on november so far
