Forums - Gaming Discussion - Only 1.33% of steam users play in 4k

That's actually more than I thought. And you have to consider that only a tiny fraction of those people actually play in 4k, the rest just watches slideshows like on console 4K.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Yeah, I guess I'm one of them, and it's pretty great.
While I love playing at 4k, it just isn't for everyone.
If I were to ask you to point out one affordable (sub thousand dollar) high refresh rate display, you couldn't do it.

Honestly who cares if not everyone is playing at 4k, 1440p120 is pretty damn good too, and right now is probably the better option for most people.
Oh, and lets not forget about running at greater than 120 fps, or using multiple monitors.
4k isn't the only thing people on PC desire, and the best part is, they get to walk their own paths, and decide what they want to target.

I agree. As for myself, I find 1440p 144hz to being my ultimate sweet spot for the next 3-4 years. it allows me to max out the games, as well as gaining a res bump and a performance boost past 60fps. I value that trade more than 4k and a possible 60fps. 4k just isn't there for me yet. I'll jump when we get 4k res textures for all sorts of objects/NPC's, as well as being able to maintain just past 60 and at decent settings, until then it's 1440p max+144hz for me.

Same. If I wanted a 4k display... You can bet I would have it on my PC.
1440P is the sweet spot at the moment in my opinion... And you know what? Even though my display is "only" 1440P, I still run games like Overwatch at 4k anyway.

That and we have access to tools as well as the ability to downsample/super sample our games anyway.

I just decided to boot up Fall of Cybertron, and thanks to a Steam launch command, I'm past the 60fps lock and enjoying a sharp image at 144fps. It's an old 2012 game, so I've zero troubles in maxing it out (even going as far as to edit the ini to push for 16x AF, as the default was on 4).

I think 4k will be a more viable resolution in a few years anyway, it's not like 1080P happened overnight either.

Next generation displays are slowly ramping up... Things like HDR, High Refresh Rates are probably a more important factor than 4k, especially if you already have a 2560x1440/2560x1600 display.

Why are computer monitors so expensive? I can get a 50 inch 4K TV for $300 from a good brand like LG. Meanwhile a 1080p 24 inch computer monitor at 75 hertz is $181. What gives?

Glad i am one of those PC Gamers. Best thing i did lately for myself was upgrading my PC and TV to put out 4k. Games just look incredibly clear and sharp. Especially with HDR.
Its an expensive investment but like most gens, it becomes a norm and people start to think how they lived with out it.

720p was a norm at one stage than when every one moved to 1080p, everyone disliked 720p. Same thing for 1080p to 4k.

This survey and peoples enjoyment of the standard X1 and the Switch suggest that far from everyone has moved to 1080p just yet.

30%+ of the surveyed users are sub 1080p

I see the Switch is an exception to the rule as its also considered a portable device and gamers are happy to accept 720p for that system. However if X1 or PS4 achieved 720p it causes a huge up roar that gamers go crazy because of pixels. However its quite fair to say going from 720p to 1080p, its hard to go back, and same with going from 1080p to 4k, its the same thing. I am now use to 4k that when I lower the resolution to 1080p I instantly notice the clarity change. Everyone will have a different opinion on it as some gamers simply just don't care. I played Zelda BOTW on my 4k TV at 900p and considering how good that game is, I ignored the Pixels.. but in saying that I definitely notice the lower resolution, it did stick out like a sore thumb.

Its like upgrading your eye Glasses, once you get a new pair, using the old pair becomes noticeable and starts to strain your eyes. Especially when you are use to wearing the new pair.

That 4k TV will likely have a ton of input lag.

How much is a ton in milliseconds?
