It's not the first time Sony has copied something Nintendo has done, and it won't be the last. It's nice to try and pretend that the companies we spend money on are loving, caring, and would be the best of friends if they were real people, but the reality is that they are a business looking to make money, and as long as they deem that the backlash they get from copying a competitor is less than the profits they will rake in (i.e., an overall net gain), then it doesn't really matter to them.

Right, and I have no problem with that. Nintendo created a competitive spirit with their classic line. It'd be stupid for Sony not to release one and we all sort of expected it. The goal is to make money. I just think calling it PSOne Classic...like their marketing team or software/hardware planning team couldn't come up with a different name than their rivals? That's just kind of embarrassing.

They might want people who collect "The classic line of consoles". Calling it that kinda seem like its part of the same line. The one that is by far the most popular. I think its a smart move.

The lack of Dual Shock controller support and Dual Shock games is puzzling. That would have been well worth it to add. Unless they intend to release it again later - "Now with Dual Shock support and games."

I don't think we'll see any DualShock retro controllers before PlayStation 2 Classic.

Ape Escape is the only PS1 classic that required DualShock anyway.

It's pre-ordered, but i want to see the list of games before i make my final decision.

Every product is an evolution of an existing product.

Every company is inspired by their competitors.

Let's get this thread back on topic.

I get it I don't get it.

I think it's actually about PSOne size...

Looks kind of big though, the Nintendo ones are tiny, but maybe I just need to see it in real-life.

It looks kinda similar in size to NES and SNES Classic, no?

They could of course be using a giant hand.

I am totally confused and worried with the PR at Sony recently. Jim Ryan, Sony's Deputy President said last year, "Why would anyone want to play these old ancient looking games? Than Sony announces a PS1 Classic console?

*Facepalm*

But does it have cloud saves?

And don't you fucking dare make a FFVII joke out of this. Yes, you!

Was he saying on behalf of Sony or was this just his personal take?

I'm in the same boat (I haven't preordered though).

I really love Tekken 3 and have never been able to buy that game digitally, but I still have the physical disc together with FFVII for my PS1. So I want to see the other 15 games before I make my decision.

Though the ease of use is a big advantage compared to the original PS1 (it's a hassle with my Scart to HDMI upscaler's power adapter and multiple cables). But Tekken 3 alone won't do it for me (already have FFVII digitally).

Gotta have a little Castlevania, Chrono Cross, Croc, Dino Crisis, Gran Turismo, Legend of Dragoon, Metal Gear Solid, Parasite Eve, Rayman, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Tomb Raider, or Tony Hawk as well. It feels weird to say, but I don't expect Crash, Spyro and MediEvil now that we'll have those solid remakes. Considering how much I've enjoyed N. Sane Trilogy, I guess that's ok.

I seriously doubt that it'll have trophy support and access to more games digitally as that info would definitely have been included in the announcement. Maybe we'll be able to play ROMs (of the games we already own physically of course).
